L. Severino (1-7, 6.42) vs. J. Odorizzi (6-5, 3.69) Ellsbury -CF Hicks -LF Gregorious -SS Castro -2B McCann -DH Sanchez -C Austin -1B Judge -RF Torreyes -3B
...Holy crap...I had forgotten today was a day game...8-1 bad guys in the 4th? ...but I see Judge is still mashing.
Judge with another HR, line drive to RF. Ah shit, Severino is getting knocked around...just gave up a 3 run HR followed by back to back singles, 5-1 Rays. Now out of the game, he goes 3.2 IP, 5 ER. Again missed his locations. They bring in Cessa who they seemed to have fallen in love with and the stiff walks his first batter with Longoria due up.....yep, you guessed it, Longoria promptly clears the bases with double RCF, 8-1 Rays. Same old same old, "mid relief" torpedoes the Yanks and puts them in a BIGGER hole. And I'm getting fuckn sick and fuckn tired of watching this mother fukn Longoria kill the Yanks. How 'bout changing the atmosphere and switching around the molecules- and put some other thoughts on Longoria's mind by "accidently" letting one get away and drilling him. Gaddammit!
4 RBI for Longoria, he gave TB a 1-0 lead in the first w/ a double. Yankees need to overahaul their approach to pitching to him. Plunk him once in a while "occasionally" by "missing" the inside target and establish in his mind that he should ALWAYS be aware and prepared to BACK OFF. Yanks would should have a much easier time with this TB team if he could be better controlled.
Just saw video of Mariano accepting his plaque and remarks when done. At least something went right today to this point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As we all know--- need good consistent pitching to sustain winning stretches....much too often the Yanks are sending SP out there who put the team in big holes....CC from June 22, Nova in his time here, Eovaldi and Severino earlier in the season and now again the past two starts.... It's also the biggest reason why this team or any other team can't put together a couple/few good winning streaks (5,6,7 G) during the course of the season.....Yanks needed to sweep this series which conveniently would've given them a 5 game win streak and pushed them to a high water mark of 5 games over .500.....and of course they play Toronto tomorrow where they're likely to lose at least 1 or 2 games. Today's game tacked on another loss which gets compounded when they face Toronto in the next series. Yanks inability to produce an ace type pitcher and a good starting rotation has been, is, and will be the reason why the team will struggle to contend for the division.
Unless Luis Cessa develops another pitch he'll never be anything more than a mop up man at best regardless of how "young" or old he is. His breaking ball isn't sharp, moves laterally and it only gets worse when he throws it knee high, or higher. I would send him back right now and call up another reliever from AAA. How about finally taking a look at Webb? He seems to be the only guy who hasn't gotten a call....from Phil Coke to Swarzak to Goody ect to Cessa for a second time.....WTF? Cessa at AAA before his call up: 77 IP, 3.03 ERA, 1.15 ERA... Webb, tall LH -currently at AAA: 61.1 IP, 2.79 ERA, 1.08 WHIP Last 10 games: 1.65 ERA, 0.93 WHIP "Everybody" else but him has gotten a call and certainly quite a few retread stiffs along the way. Can we get at least get a quick little look? Give the kid a shot.
