RHP - Masahiro Tanaka (12-7, 3.38 ERA) VS. LHP - Wade Miley (11-11, 4.39 ERA) Yankee NOTES: After yesterda's loss the Yankees WC lead is now only 3 games over the Astros & 3.5 over the Angels with 5 games to play. With rookie Greg Bird struggling against lefties the Yankees have had backup catcher John Ryan Murphy taking ground balls at 1st who has never played the position. CF - Ellsbury 3B - Headley DH - Rodriquez RF - Beltran C - McCann LF - Young 1B - Bird 2B - Refsnyder SS - Gregorius
Most likely a good start from Tank, but this offence has a way of fucking up even the most well pitched starts.
The Yankees would clinch a tie for a WC birth with a win tonight. They would clinch a wild card birth with a win and a Houston loss.
"With six games left in the season, the Yankees have to win two more games or win a game and have the Texas Rangers or the Los Angeles Angels lose. The Yankees fell, 5-1, to the Boston Red Sox Monday night. Their offense has 14 runs in the last six games."
And as I mention yesterday, with the exception of the 6-1 victory over Chicago all there scoring in 5 of the last 6 games have come in 1 inning. Last night it was the first.
After these last two losses against the Beaneaters, I'm not sure if the Yanx will even have that WC, come the end of the month. Last nights game, was sickening, perhaps the worst of the year, IMO, considering a WC is at stake.....!!! Here's to hoping Masahiro can stop the bleeding, if not this team just may be doomed or done with. Now that would be a National Disgrace..!
What makes it hard to imagine this team doing anything in the playoffs is that slumps are one thing. Guys looking like they're completely out of gas is another thing. McCann looks blown up for sure and there's no doubt Arod has hit a ball. With Tex gone for the season this lineup couldn't afford those two bats to completely die. Does a second wind come completely out of nowhere? We can always hope but when you're talking about a 40 year old and a 31 year old catcher it doesn't seem likely.
what about the Vegas odds of winning a WC birth NOW....! These last few games, as 59 pointed out, may require a series of miracles, to gain that WC.
They would have to lose out and everyone else win out to lose the wc. Not likely and Texas plays Anaheim to end the season.
^^^ the tie breaker system is kinda complicated...but the main thing for the Yanx is that they must play that one game play-in at home...their chances on the road are almost nil.
Toronto doesn't lose and they don't stop hitting. That offense is ridiculous. I don't see how they lose in the playoffs. There's no lineup close to having a three in a row like Donaldson, Bautista and Encarnacion.
