The single most critical of things Yamx Hitters have to correct this year... Such was to apparent in the ALCS... I got a feeling Boone wants everyone swinging for the Fences....
All the propaganda I've heard on Boone end results on how smart he allegedly is. That being said he needs to get his hitter that bases loaded singles, double, and triples keep the line moving. I'm in agreement with the strikeouts as well. Anyone who watched the Yankees/Sox game heard the NESN commentator brag about how Judge was contained and they believe that they can do the same with Stanton and Sanchez. We're gonna hope that doesn't happen because adjustments should be made by the hitters. That Mc Kinney kid, I'm beginning to like him, nice win for the Yankees today.
...and that's the problem. Matts...beating up on mediocre pitching during the regular season is all well and good, but in the post season mashers are usually exposed and/or throttled by better pitching. Boone needs to stress to this team that they must change their 2 strike hitting approach. ...I have no problem with Yankee hitters looking for a certain pitch to drive early in the count but damnit, once you get 2 strikes on you (unless it's a 3-2 count), you have to protect the plate an concentrate on making contact, especially with RISP...Gardner is the absolute worst with 2 strikes because he's still looking for a certain pitch and usually sits there with the bat on his shoulders as a called strike 3 goes by without a swing...very unnerving....SWING THE FUCKING BAT ! ...to give some perspective, look at Gardner's career splits when swinging on the first pitch; BA .370 OBP .391 SLG .588 OPS .979 ...I shit you not.
^^^^ great input 59 and YF ~!~ One of few games I've seen, 2/28 loss to Tigers, 9-6, 9th inning bases loaded 1 out. Both Kratz and McBroom swung for the fences. Saez made that first out, swinging for the fences. All they needed was some slap hit contact. With the HR craze going on last year; I'm not convinced Boone and/or Thames have done their part to play to correct the downtown craze. It was indeed obvious last year, the team has got to learn to either hit the slider/curve, or layoff it; with more small ball, or re-define the Bombers approach as necessary, i.e. simple contact. Odds of getting a hit in lieu of that big HR??? More hits, more runs, less K's... Holy schmidt, with those stats Gardner s/b swinging at the 1st pitch, lest its an obvious ball....great stuff, I had no idea ~!~ Thanx
