The New York Yankees won over the Washington Nationals by a score of 5-3. Starting for the Yankees was C.C. Sabathia and he won. Mariano Rivera got the save. This game seemed to take on a boring pace. Maybe it’s because the Yankees were playing the Nationals and it didn’t particularly excite me. They are the worst team in baseball. It wasn’t surprising that the game was close because I’m sure the Yankees played down to their opponent a little. It’s hard to play tough against such an inferior team. C.C. Sabathia had pretty good velocity and was hitting 94 mph consistently on the radar gun. He was mixing in all of his pitches early, his 4-Seam Fastball, change up, curveball and slider. He was throwing his slider effectively to left-handed batters and it had a great bite to it almost like a slurve. When he got to two strikes to right-handed batters he would throw his change up out and away from the plate. He was getting a lot of the batters to swing at his 4-Seam fastball early in the count which is why his pitch count was so low throughout the game. He had an awesome ball to strike ratio with 75 strikes to 34 balls. The home run he gave up to second baseman Anderson Hernandez was his only mistake of the game. You “can” say it was Posada’s fault if you want because of the pitch that was called. Anderson was batting right-handed and Sabathia was getting right-handed batters out all game with his change up, out and down away from the plate or his change up, up and away from the plate. Instead, Sabathia hung a slider “in” which Hernandez crushed. I was getting worried at the time that the Yankees could lose to the worst team in baseball but the Nationals have one of the worst bull pens in the league. Of course the Yankees won thanks to a Robinson Cano double. The Yankees have so many great hitters that if one batter is not hitting his best one night, another one will pick him up. Player of the Game: Don’t cha know? Robinson Cano. You can’t beat a 4-for-4 night with having the deciding runs driven in.
