The New York Yankees won over the Toronto Blue Jays by a score of 4-2. A.J. Burnett started, dominated and got the win. Mariano Rivera got the save.

It looks as though A.J. Burnett’s signing this off season is finally paying off. He’s really dominating out there. He had great stuff today.

He was hitting both corners all day with his fastball, had a nasty curveball and had an outstanding mix of pitches. He was throwing heat early in the game at 96 mph and was throwing his knuckle curve down and away for a strike and he was throwing it back door as well. He established his fastball early.

After watching Burnett for a couple of innings, I had no doubt the Yankees would win. I was confident they would and when Phil Hughes came in the game, I became even more confident. He could be the 96 Rivera if Girardi was to make him the 8th inning guy.

Phil Hughes just lets loose and doesn’t worry about anything. He just lets it all hang out when he’s relieving. He was hitting 95 and 96 mph on his fastball. I didn’t think he was able to throw that hard but that’s because he always saved his pitches when he was a starter.

I like the fact that if a Yankee starter can go seven innings, then you have Phil Hughes and Phil Coke to mix and match, lefty and righty in the eighth inning. It’s the Yankees best option they’ve had in years for their middle relief.

A-Rod hit a monster shot. Boy did he hit that out. I’m not sure how many games Alex missed, I don’t feel like looking it up right now, but he’s starting to move up there in home runs for the year. He has 14. After next week, it’s possible he could be in the top-10. If he did indeed stop taking steroids, then this is impressive.

Player of the Game: A.J. Burnett. Looked Great.
