The New York Yankees won over the Chicago White Sox by a score of 6-4. This game was a battle of wills. Who wanted it more? The White Sox or the Yankees? Andy Pettitte was battling all night. The game was back and forth. It wasn’t vintage Andy Pettitte. He did just enough to keep the Yankees in the game however. He gave up four earned runs on seven hits in six innings. Ok, not bad. The Yankees had Robinson Cano on their side but the Yankees also had to deal with the White Sox bull pen which was the third best in the American League… The game was tied 4-4 in the bottom 7th inning, the Yankees are up. A left handed pitcher is in the game. Then, the doors open… Francisco Cervelli gets plunked. Ok Joe Girardi, Brett Gardner is up. Time to put in Marcus Thames to take his place, right? I mean, Brett Gardner is a left-handed batter and Marcus Thames has been KILLING left-handed pitchers. Ok, we’ll wait for the move…. Wait, what?? No Marcus Thames? Ok. We’ll trust you Girardi. This is your move. Brett Gardner steps up to the plate, smash! Base hit! There is now a man on first and second. Yankee fans? Welcome aboard. You have to know that at this time, good things are going to happen. The Yankees have the top of their order up. I felt it, I KNEW Derek Jeter was going to get a hit. So what happens? He hits a triple! He rocked the White Sox like a hurricane!! He stormed them! He rolled the White Sox like a tidal wave!! He kicked their doors in! He kicked their doors in, stepped in and said, “Hello, my name is Derek Jeter. I’m the captain of this ship!” A home run, a triple, a single. Derek Jeter did it all. He’s the “all” man. He STORMED the White Sox. He STORMED them!!! What a move by Girardi though, leaving in Gardner. It showed his baseball “genius.” He GENIUSED the White Sox! That move showed his baseball, “acumen.” His brilliance. His baseball knowledge and “understanding.” He “gets” it. After Derek Jeter’s triple, it was over for the White Sox. Emotionally, they were down and out. Down and OUT! OHHH!! I feel so good right now. Some one get me a seltzer water! Whew! Then Mariano closed out the game. Hey Obama, that Mariano is really good, huh? What a night and what a win.
