They'll be in position to make a run for the playoffs. I know it currently doesn't look good- but I also know things can change with one or two very good weeks. Like it or not, we still have over a month and a half left in this season. Stay tuned......this thing isn't over yet.
A streak of at least 5 would be nice. Unfortunately this team just doesn't have the necessary talent to accomplish that. And even if the hitting is there the pitching isn't.
I'm sure it's already been said... BUT.... the Yankees are 10 back in the East, 7 back in the Wild Card with 5 teams ahead of them... 2.5 games to the closest of the 5... Everyone ahead of us in the Wild Card hunt has a run differential of +28 or higher... the Yankees is -24... that is a run differential difference of at least 52... the pitching is faltering, the offense is sputtering... I don't know how even a 7 game run would help when we are this deep in a hole...
It's not going to happen with the likes of Hughes in the rotation. He's just plain shot. They really don't have anyone else to slot in there. Phelps is out for the year it looks like and Pineda would be smart to just make sure he's ready for spring training.
You know Mess at this point I wouldn't be opposed to seeing one of our bullpen guys get a shot in Hughes place. Kelly or even Clairborne. I mean we have absolutely nothing to lose. Can't do any worse. And who knows maybe we'll find that much needed diamond in the ruff. JMO.
I watch every game like all of you, what is different this year has been the starting pitching since June, when 3 of your starters are gassing the bullpen, and are at 100 pitches around the 5th inning, it is almost impossible to have a sustained winning streak unless you are out slugging the opponents. If Arod, Granderson, Cano and Soriano would get scorching hot all together, then possible they could have a streak that would make a difference.
