http://www.nypost.com/seven/10232008/sports/yankees/yanks_plans_may_include_cameron_134825.htm Makes sense because Jackson is still a year away, Melky and Gardner aren't good enough hitters in the Yankees lineup, and Damon is a liability in center. I've always been a fan of Cameron's game (although he does strike out a lot), but it seems a lot of yankee fans aren't for it. Thoughts?
I'd rather go and get some pitching and leave Melky in CF. While he's not the best at the plate, he's a solid defensive player and has a cannon for an arm.
I agree. Can get a 2 solid bull pen arms, or a part time closer type and some with the money it could take to bring Cameron to the Yankees. Melky is fine. It wasn't a lack of offense that killed the team last year. It was more so that after Mussina who did we have, even Wang and Joba were out with an injury or making the transition to being a full time starter. -Petey
Yea, I'll say the injury to Wang killed us last year. When you lose your ace for the season in the first week of interleague, that hurts. A lot.
Rather just pick up Bo Bobby's option, to be honest. I think Matsui can pick up 1st base. Damon/Gardner,Melky/Abreu sounds fine. This is just a stopgap till Action Jackson is ready.
I wouldn't say that. He offers good defense and power, but strikes out too much, and doesn't walk enough. Average is poop. Rather stay away from him, if he hurts Melk's development.
He's a rally killer, he's old, and isn't worth the investment. The Yankees need to change their philosophy and keep up with the rest of the AL. Angels, Rays, and now Red Sox have gone away from being just a HR hitting team and are using lineups with a lot of speed and aggressive base running. Look at the HR totals from this season, all the power numbers are done. I'm not sure if this is a direct result of the crackdown on steroids, HGH, and other illegal substances, but teams relying on power aren't winning anymore. You need players who can run from corner to corner on a single. How many Yankees can get from 1st to 3rd base on a shallow hit single?
Allow me to list from my projected starting lineup: Damon Jeter A-Rod Abreu Cano Melky/Gardner 6/9 isn't bad, nor is it great. Unless he's okay with coming in as a pinch hitter/defensive replacement/platoon player, I do not want. FWIW, Girardi has implemented a running game. Yanks were 7th in SB %, and 8th in SB total. (Both leagues combined) 4th in the AL in total, 4th in %
Where did they rank in team strikeouts, on base %, and batting avg. with runners in scoring position?
23rd in strikeouts (the good side) for MLB, 8th for AL (fwiw, only one team that made the playoffs on the AL side had less) 3rd in OBP for the AL, 6th overall. 17th in RISP BAA. 10th in AL Pen: Best K/9 , 5th best ERA, 3rd best Opposing BAA for our bullpen, best K/9, 3rd best WHIP
