Didn't shaq miss alot of games as well?
Yeah, but the argument for Shaq is that his team is actually going somewhere, while ours is in the lottery.
It doesn't look fair stat-wise, but I guess Yao is right where he belongs. Shaq did nothing to deserve first team though, if I had to pick I'd choose Ben Wallace. Not only was his team the best in the NBA, Wallace also didn't miss a single game, something Yao and Shaq failed to do. The fact that Yao got this though does show that he is being recognized more, but the fact that Ilgauskas, Brad Miller and Chris Kaman got votes as well means some voters didn't even think Yao was worthy of third team.
A while back I predicted Yao would get third team. So, it's what I expected. I thought Ben Wallace deserved 1st team ahead of Shaq, though. He played 1000 more minutes, and he was the defensive linchpin of the best team in the league.
This is straight BS....there have been players who have made NBA first team before who didn't go to the playoffs....Yao had a career year, and they put him on the 2nd team..........I'm sorry, but Yao >>> Shaq (old and worn out) and Wallace (all defense, but no offense)....and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
i think that the only reason shaq and wallace were ahead of yao was because there teams had a good record and made the playoffs, while yao's team had a bad record and missed the playoffs. so thats the only thing that held him back.. if rockets would've made the playoffs or had a good record..yao would've had a chance to get 2nd team atleast.. but with his team sucking..the best he could'be was 3rd.. and thats what he got.. and thats what he deserved..
Yao is the best Center in the league, whatever team he gets is just extra motivation for him next year. Had the Rockets made the playoffs, he would've been first team. Had T-Mac been healthy, we would've made the playoffs. Had T-Mac been healthy, we wouldn't be having this conversation right now, we'd be watching our Rockets being contenders. It's all Tracy's fault. But in all seriousness, Yao is a great, great, center, I wouldn't trade him for any player in the league -- and he will be dominant next year if healthy, first team will be his -- but that'll be a minor accomplishment. I've made 20 bets already saying the Rockets will be in the playoffs next year -- I plan to be a rich man.
