Democrats good. Republicans bad. This kind of thing, as well as a terrible temper were made known well before he election. Sheeple elected him.
Hasn't San Diego voted in Republican mayors forever and this is one of the first dems in a while? oops. probably all the mexicans in the city who finally got to voting age after their parents made them anchor babies that voted him in.
The news story doesn't tell any of the story. He hit on old ladies. He hit on women meeting with him over veterans issues. He hasn't even served a year yet. http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/21/us/san-diego-mayor-bob-filner-scandal/?hpt=us_c2 Businesswoman Dianne York told CNN that Filner put his hands on her buttocks during a photo opportunity that followed a meeting three months ago. York said there were witnesses to what happened. She said both her advisers and Filner's were in the room at the time. York is the 18th woman to accuse Filner of improper conduct. One woman said Filner gave her "tush a pat." Another said he "put me in what I guess now is the famous headlock" and tried "to kiss me on the lips and I'd have to squirm to get away."
Would have helped if this wasn't the alternative. It truly was an election of 2 candidates I loathed. For the past couple of days, all of the local news stations plus CNN and maybe other national ones were posted up at a building on Broadway. Its a big one, so I'm sure there are other offices there, but all I know if is Gordon Rees (law firm), Chipotle, a Chase bank and Specialties. Did the mayor have an office in there? I walked by wiht the dog around 640 yesterday and all the cameras were set up pointed at the main entrance. By the time I walked back (730ish) everyone was gone.
There was mediation going on. Democrats figuring out how to get his resignation while doing the least damage to the party. DeMaio would have been fine - worst case is he'd keep the seat warm until next election. He is certainly qualified. I had no issues with Sanders as mayor, but he wasn't in the news much. The city seems to have weathered the Interference from DC quite well.
I am of the mind that the vast majority of people that seek political office are sorry individuals. They either enjoy petty power, need the adulation or validation an election provides. We need more citizen legislators and fewer career politicians. I used to be of the mind that elections served as the best term limit, but now I really think we need actual term limits via legislation. I think it's the only remedy. I know Filner was in his first term, but before this he was a US Representative from 1993-2012. He was a member of the club that watches out for their own. Oddly enough, he replaced Duke Cunningham in the House, who may still be in prison for corruption. Democrat, Republican, it doesn't matter. We need to rid ourselves of the Ruling Class.
