More like they're keeping the tax rates close to what they are now and have been for 10 years.

Or to be more accurate, continuing a monetary bribe to the rich, enacted by Bush/Cheney against the wishes of the taxpaying public, which started our economic collapse, actually eliminated jobs, and will now prevent any progress in fixing it.

A massive payoff which guarantees a growing deficit.

You do realize that the "rich" pay all of the income tax revenue in this country, right? Do you want to give a tax break to those that already don't pay any income tax?

That's garbage, but I don't want tax cuts for ANYBODY.

Bush/Cheney borrowed more than we can afford and gave it to the rich. It needs to be repaid.

Anyone who wants to gripe about the Dems spending loses all credibility by supporting this Xmas present for the Uber-wealthy.

Actually, it isn't garbage and proves that you have no idea what you're talking about... as usual.

That's because it is hard to give tax cuts to people that don't pay income tax in the first place. That is about half of the country.

Here we are, our country going into debt, and what do we do? We cut taxes. What is probably going to happen is we are going to keep this stupid ass behavior up until the country goes under. But nobody will care because all they care about is the bottom line $$ in their pocket. All the way until the country goes tits up and their money means nothing.

Yet you voted for the current president even though it was clear he was going to spend like crazy?

But you know, you are now precluded from ever crying about the deficit or blaming Obama for it. It's the law, check it out.

Some people seem to forget we just avoided a Great Depression. 25% or Mortgages are still under water, compared to 5% in a normal economy. I hate Greedy people as much as the next, but now is simply no time to raise taxes on Anyone. Our Debt is Massive, it's gonna take a heck of allot more than simply raising taxes and/or cutting the budget to get out of this hole.

Obama just negotiated winning in 2012, it was an interesting move to be sure. I like it though because it now puts the Republicans on the back foot for when they most likely take over in 2016. They would then have to deal with the massive debt, which has been the Republican strategy for years. Basically devastate the economy and take as much money as you can and leave it in the Dems lap. Now the Dems are going to switch it around, sounds good to me. We are basically hopeless now in terms of a long-term financial future.

Why does that "sound good to you"? Are you really that partisan that you would rather have your side look better than the other instead of doing what's better for the country?

There is no longer any honor in politics, so yes. I am not partisan, just realistic.

I just typed a huge rambling diatribe and deleted it.

Instead, fuck congress and all of the rest of them.

I would have preferred that the GOP worked with the Liberal wing of the Democratic Party and had this bill go down in defeat. Then the new Congress could have voted a clean bill up or down and made the tax cuts retroactive. There would have been some agency costs in changing the tax rates back, but it would have been a hell of a lot better than all the spending that was dumped into this bill.

I heard that these tax cuts will take the economy predicted growth from 2.4% to 3%, which is really good.

The problem is, we simply could not afford them. Lets go back to the Clinton levels. What were the Reagan levels compared to now?
