When the Sept. 11 attacks happened, former ESPN employee Seth Jordan felt compelled to serve. He soon joined the United States Marine Corps, where he worked as an instructor pilot, forward air controller, aviation safety officer and public affairs officer, and was deployed multiple times overseas. Ten years later, he and his wife have settled down in Belgrade, Mont., but Jordan's time helping his fellow brothers didn't end upon arriving home. Enter Dog Tag Brewing. On each beer can Dog Tag Brewing produces, a fallen soldier's full title, name and full story are printed on the side. Jordan founded the craft beer company with one mission: brew quality beer that also delivers a message that remembers and honors those whose lives have been lost in combat. He specifically works with a group known as Gold Star families, who have lost a loved one in battle. "We support local impact projects of remembrance," Jordan told A Plus. But that's not all that the company does to help honor fallen military heroees. Jordan — who says the Dog Tag Brewing currently sells in Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia — told A Plus that Dog Tag Brewing recently set up a nonprofit called the Dog Tag Brewing Foundation (DTBF), where 100 percent of the proceeds from each beer donated will go. "The board is comprised of all recently transitioned veterans from these past two wars who know what it is like to lose comrades," he told A Plus. "It is kind of neat how we are there to provide financial, consulting and advisory services for the families of the fallen as they prepare to do things in their communities to preserve their loved one's legacies." Dog Tag Brewing also pays tribute to soldiers on its Facebook page by sharing their stories and individual beer cans. Naturally, the About Me section ends with: "Please remember these great Americans, salute their sacrifice and enjoy our beer," which is exactly what soldiers and supporters alike have been doing. On the company's social pages, including on its Untappd app account, people have posted pictures with their beers with the hashtag #ToastaHero, honoring those who have lost their lives with a cold one. I have mixed feelings. It's pretty cool in remembrance, but it also feels a little slimy, earning money off people's grief and tradegy. I think it's a matter of perspective.
