Why don't the Lakers aim for Yi Jianlian. LA has Sun Yue, and has a huge Chinese community, which is what Yi is looking for. Why not trade Lamar Odom to Milwaukee for Mo Williams, Yi, and fillers? And also, Yi is another piece that, with Bynum, is for the future and Minny would be STUPID to say no to him for Garnett!
1. Mo Williams is a Free Agent, and he will sign with the Heat most likely. 2. Sorry to say, but Odom is not worth Yi, Mo and fillers. Then to trade Yi and Bynum for KG, would not be smart. A big guy like Yi, who will only get better and Bynum, who will also get better, not worth it.
I don't know how long it will take for Yi to develop, but if he develops quicky, then we should consider it. However, you have to understand that we want to win now while Kobe is in his prime, so if Yi takes time to develop, the trade would have been a waste and the total opposite of what we want to do (win now and not 7 years down the line).
Given that Jason Richardson was traded for the eighth pick in the draft, Odom sounds about right for the sixth pick. I'm not sure about Milwaukee's cap situation but they might have room to take Odom's contract straight on. Yi can max out at a higher level than Odom but he won't replace Odom in his first year.
Yi is still probably a couple of years away until he really starts to produce in the NBA. If we trade for him now, no way does he have the same impact to the game as Lamar Odom. You really think Kobe's going to be pleased if we send Lamar away for a Chinese project who hasn't stepped a single foot yet onto an NBA court? We make that move, there is no way we make the playoffs next season.
No way the Lakers should trade for Yi. Every city has a china town, that isn't the point, if he wants that or not. I Lakers need to make a move for O'Neal or Garnett, that is it.
Minny does NOT want Odom. If we trade Odom for Yi, we can offer Yi instead of Minny. Minny looks like if they trade KG, they are in the rebuilding stage. What better to rebuild with than two promising big men and Yi Jianlian (who I thought was going to be a bust, but I love the way he has been playing in summer league) and Andrew Bynum, who reportedly is "turning heads?"

Smush Parker was a superstar in the Summer League, where is he now? Until Yi Jianlian actually steps a foot onto a real NBA court, he's still a toss-up. You also seem to be sure Minnesota will jump at a trade involving Yi Jianlian and Andrew Bynum. Why? How do you know Minny is even interested in Yi? What happens if we trade for him and Minnesota isn't even interested? Then what do we do? We're stuck with Kobe Bryant and a roster filled with young "potential." Kobe will be as good as gone

Also, why would Milwaukee want Odom when Charlie Villanueva is supposed to become a similar player when he pans out? And wouldn't trading Odom mean a definite Kobe trade?

Richardson is a consistant scorer and team leader, a likely All Star in the east, and a six year vet at only 26 years old. Lamar Odom's career, on the other hand, has been marred by poor assertiveness that doesn't match his physical gifts. Also, I think the case could be made that Yi Jianlian will very well possibly be much, much better than Brandan Wright. At this point, you have to remember, you're not trading for a draft position, you're trading for the guy that got taken.
