Sprained Ankles! I sprained my ankle in a fierce Championship P.E. Football game today I thought I broke it at first because there was a really loud pop that I felt. Anyone know if there's anything I can do to make it heal faster?
Wear an ankle brace. Go to a doctor. You know what sucks more than that, a nroken finger. I got one form playing basketball in PE. It sucks for me, broken fingers are the worst, especially when it's on your strong hand.
Put some Bengay on your legs at night that really helps. Or put one of them icy cold patches. I think its suppose to be for your back, but if you put it on your ankle, i guess it should help. And, like Carter said wear an ankle brace. Also, put your legs in hot water. That outta help.

EDIT: That goes for you too, J-Ray. You'll forget all about your little ankle problem.
I remember once I went up for a dunk and bounced off my friend (he's kinda huge) and landed o nthe ground and landed on my ankle really awkwardly and heard a loud ass CRACK. I thought I'd snap my bone in half or something...for some reason NOTHING happened to my ankle...it didn't even swell or nothing, it was fine a day later. I've rolled my ankle plenty of times. My brother used to always sprain his ankles...you can't do much but ice it, put on one of those sprain bandages or walk with crutches if it's bad to that point.

Don't run on it unless you are well warmed up and have stretched it. AND yes, ankle sprains do suck, I've had plenty and they are just a drag especially when you want to play ball, but you have to let them heal. Everyday slowly move your ankle in different directions to maintain your range of motion. Stretch the tendons gently. If its really bad, get an aircast or something. You can't really cheat healing time, time is the only thing that will take care of it. Careful light stretching will help it heal properly and bring your regular range of motion back sooner. Here is a webpage that goes over some ankle rehabilitation stretches, but be careful if it is really hurt. You don't want to aggravate the injury, by doing stretches that are too stressful. http://www.orthoassociates.com/Ankle_rehab.htm
for me, if i walk on it pretty much all day, it keeps it loose so i can actually run on it. It may slow down healing, but i get to play Ice it before you go to bed too. If you have school, just kind of bounce it around in your seat to keep blood flow in it. That has always worked for me.
Walk around plenty and it'll heal quicker. That goes to the old saying of "If you don't use it, it begins to rust." I've sprained my ankles too many times to count and just walking around best I can is always for the best. I remember one time I broke my fibula in half and refused to go to the doctor because I fiigured it was just a severe sprain. That was a dumbass decision on my behalf. If the pain doesn't go away in a week then I would seek medical attention.
Oh man...sprained ankles are horrible. I've sprained my ankle soo many times that there's a chipped bone in my ankle. Sometimes it'll just start hurting like a mo fo randomly...and then maybe an hour later it'll sorta pop back into place and be ok. Doc's don't wanna do surgery since it's such a small chip so they gave me some exercises to do. Speaking of landing on people. I was playing basketball a couple years ago and...the other team had a fast break. I was running the guy down and I jumped and blocked his layup...but then I landed on his ankle and my ankle just...rolled...and it...literally snapped. I look down at my ankle and it's all F'd up and pointing in the wrong direction and just...twisted. I dislocated my ankle over 2 points. I was in a cast for 2 months, then another month or two of rehab. It's been over 2 years now and my ankle still isn't near 100% and doctors say that it probably wont be the same. Before the injury I used to be able to dunk easily. Now I can barely grab rim. It just sucked... Anyway...hope you recover soon man. I'd get it checked out to be safe.
I've done mine alot too, I did it not long ago, although I think that was more in my foot, I think I tore some tendons or somthing, cause when it happened I heard and felt a cracking sound in my foot, and I couldnt walk for a couple of days, plus it was sore for over 3 months, but its gone away now.
I remember I sprained my ankle one time going up for a layup around two guys and when I came down, I landed on one of the guys feet and my ankle twisted. Like some of the other guys here said, it's best to just walk it off.
