Let's get this out of the way: this is a shill post. Still here? Cool. You should consider giving to this kickstarter campaign. It's for the Portland band Ezra Bell. They are a indie folk band. They are trying to raise enough money to self produce a full album. Your contribution is a pre-order for their album. They are really good. No, I'm not a member and I don't know any of them. I just really like their music and would kill for a full album. Six days left, a thousand dollars to go. Here are two of my favorite songs of theirs: Also, they did a cover for It's a Wonderful World that was featured in a United Healthcare commercial that was apparently played during the Super Bowl. thanks!
I like it, but you've got to like the singer, and (like, say, The Decemberists, ) it's easy to imagine that way of singing really pissing people off.
I have to give you credit, although, I was happy when the original folkies died out and evolved, even geniuses Bob Dylan. So I say let this style of music rest in peace.
I listen to alot of newer folk stuff, amongst everything else. The "indie" part had me aprehensive, but they arent bad. I liked the first song you posted. I gotta say that united healthcare oldies doo wop hipster cover was not something i could ever jam to under any circumstances though.
