I don't think anything will ever remove it from that place. It had everything and at the time supported the best graphics and AI around. I can't even begin to count how many hours I put into that game, not to mention winning the US tournament in the late 90's by complete domination. That is my game. Driver comes in second because that game gave me and everyone else that came over to play it one hell of a time. Sure, the graphics were questionable at times, the music blew ass and the glitches were there, but that just seemed to add to the experience I guess. What with all those cops doing hundreds of flips in the air and the glitch where you can mash your car into a vehicle's side and fly high yourself! Rounding out my top five is Super Metroid and this game doesn't need explaination if you've played it. What wasn't actually good about the game? I could beat the damn thing a thousand times over and it was still refreshing. Project IGI was a downplayed PC FPS title that went almost entirely unnoticed. Eidos produced this one and did a great job. You forgive the glitches with spectacular realistic weapons and gameplay, graphics and environments which are so expansive that they never end no matter how far you walk through them. Grand Theft Auto 3 for the PC is at five. Again, do I need to explain this game? It was better then the PS2 version though by ten fold what with all the things you could modify. I just kept changing the city around so much and this one guy eventually added the Statue of Liberty in mod. What's the need for another GTA game during that generation? None, unless you can't live without swimming. Winning Eleven 8 was the best football game ever. I can't even begin to express how much I loved this game when it first came out. The graphics were underrated and still are and the gameplay was the best. TimeSplitters: Future Perfect is another great FPS game. A great heir to GoldenEye 007 from the original team with lead David Doak. Whenever I find the time to play games I still head back to this game to play a match of Elimination. Perfect Dark wasn't anywhere near as charming as GoldenEye 007, but has all the right components to make it addictive as hell and well worth playing over and over. Ultimate Ride was a nice roller coaster simulator that took months to perfect your work in. It gained massive fame from 2002 through 2003 before the publishers shut it down for financial reasons. There were thousands of mods for it and dozens of communities dedicated to it. There were also weekly awards given out for best roller coasters. I proudly won 21 of them, which is strange because that is my favorite number. Then finally we have Max Payne. This game was just simply bad ass with a great story. There were so many new features to it that sparked hundreds of rip offs that never could produce what the original had done.

The entire Madden series The entire NCAA Football series Entire Grand Theft Auto Series and Gran Turismo 3. I play other games but i'll love those games forever.
(No order) NBA 2K (all of them) NBA Live 2004 and 2005 Madden (all of them) Smackdown vs Raw (all of them) Call of Duty 2 and 3 Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Mario 64, a classic NBA Courtside (GameCube) One of my favorite basketabll games of all time. I loved this game.
Games I never got tired of, and could compete with/own anyone in: Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Playstation) I used Akuma, Shin Akuma, Evil Ryu, Ken, Guy or Sakura at all times and owned anyone I faced in this game. NBA Live 2001 (Playstation) Garnett on the cover and EA's last great Live game before switching over to PS2...2002 was just a carbon copy of 2001. This game was pretty realistic for a PS1 Live game. NBA Live '99 (Playstation) I still can't believe Antoine Walker got a cover on Live but this was one of my favourite games of all time. I completely owned the computer and whoever else I faced. Plus, the 1998 rookies weren't included in it (that meant no Vince Carter), and I actually ended up creating a Vince look-a-like, complete with the rookie goatee he used to have and giving him all 99's and owning the season mode many times. I loved the music from this game as well. NBA Live 2004 (PS2/PC) I've played every single NBA Live game (aside from 2007), and this was one of my favourites. Sure, you could use the hop-step to basically score at will, but it was still a great game nonetheless. You could adjust the tempo and adjust the sliders and make the game as realistic as you wanted. Final Fantasy VII (Playstation) I remember being in grade 6 (2001) and spending almost the whole summer trying to beat this game. I couldn't get past farther than a little bit after Aeris died but this was the one and ONLY RPG I actually enjoyed playing, and even got into the story, even though it was basically reading from the screen. It also had one of the best music soundtracks I had ever heard in my life, even to this day. NHL '95 (Sega Genesis) At one point, I could not stop playing this game. The graphics were cheesy, there was no fighting, and the players made wierd sounds when you checked them while skating, but god, I loved this game. NBA 2k5 (PS2) My first taste of the NBA 2k series and in my opinion, it blew Live out of the water. I've played Live '05, and '06 and I've played 2k5 and 2k6 and Sega is just killing EA in these games. Test Drive 5 (Playstation) One of the first ever games that I bought. Also one of my favourite car games of all time. Gran Turismo 1 & 2 (Playstation) One of my favourite racing games of all time. Marvel vs. Capcom (Arcade) God, I remember the days when I used to go to the mall as a kid with some of my older friends and just wait in LINE at the arcade to play this game, that's how popular it was. There's a bunch of others, but I just can't remember them right now. I don't even play video games anymore, but everytime I think about these games (excluding the PS2 ones), it reminds me of my younger days. Goldeneye would have been on this list of mine if I had N64 growing up. I was a playstation guy, as you can clearly see. Great thread by the way.
Great list there, Karma, and nice to see someone else giving an explaination as to why they enjoyed their games so much. Really a shame, but nobody ever goes to arcades anymore. That whole scene is dead, but when I was growing up everyone wanted to go to the arcades and just blow all of their money. When I think about, it sucked, but I remember owning people in that arcade version of Cruisin' World.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion I'm currently playing it, and this game is incredible. The world is huge, there's tons to do, best RPG up to date. Final Fantasy IX In my opinion, the best Final Fantasy of all. I enjoyed VII, but this one really sucked me in. I thought both the story and the characters were awesome. F.E.A.R Best shooter I have played so far. This game is creepy and full of action, really keeps you on the edge and I enjoyed it from start to finish. Unlike other shooters, the AI is really solid, so it's actually a challenge sometimes. Metal Gear Solid II I actually hate one aspect of it, that's the main character. I prefer playing with Snake, but the game was too hard to put down even without him. For some reason, I didn't enjoy the first one though, perhaps because I was pretty young when I played it. NBA Live 2003 It was the first NBA game I played on PS2, and it was absolutely brilliant. I really can't remember much about it right now, but I definitely played it more than any other game that year. Final Fantasy X I must of beaten this game at least 5 times, and I never play a game more than once. The little love story they had was a bit gayish, though. Crash Team Racing Haha, it looks so childish now, but back then it was the sh*t. I used come over my friend's house all the time, just to bust his ass in it. That's pretty much it for me, I liked plenty of other games, but these are my top for now.
ESPN NFL 2k5 - PS2 - My god, that game was the definition of Presentation, Realism, and Gameplay. I swear, you play 1 quick game and you would honestly think you're watching a Monday Night football game on ESPN for real. The commentators talk for real and not like robots you know. They actually crack jokes and talking like human beings unlike guys in Madden who basically repeat the same things over and over. In ESPN, THEY HAVE A FREAKING SPORTSCENTER. Wow cool is that for real? In franchise mode, after every week, you press square to watch sportscenter and you see Chris Berman actually recapping every game. They even show a highlight of every game, he talks about the players of the week, injuries, trades and free agents. The off-season edition of Sportscenter is nice as hell too, because Mel Kiper is in and he talks about the draft. Man, because they had the ESPN intergration in the game, they expanded it so much in their gameplay using their in-game graphics, cutscenes, and stuff they use to show statistics, etc. EA Sports have been using ESPN for 2 years and haven't done jack **** with it. And wow, the first person mode was incredible, though difficult. I could go on and on, and I'll take ESPN NFL 2k5 over any Madden game right now, but watch this review that compares ESPN NFL 2k5 and Madden NFL 2005. and watch these gameplay videos: Halftime show with Chris Berman Invalid Video Link WWF Smackdown! 2, Know Your Role - PS1 - I know that it isn't the best game in the series, but overall, I thought it was one of the best for me. It had lots of superstars and characters, the storylines in story mode was great, the most game modes and match types than any other Smackdown versions. It was just the best for me because me and my friend every day would play it, you know. It was like a ritual everyday after school. Counter-Strike - PC - I love this game as well. It wasn't as graphic enhanced as Call of Duty or Battlefield, but this game is fun as hell to play because it doesn't really get repetitive. There would be a new round every 3 minutes and you'd be shooting and killing each other quickly, it's one of my favorites. Man tough list to write out. Final Fantasy VII - First game I purchased on PSX and probably the one I will always cherish. From the get go this game was just magnificent in all aspects, particularly the storyline. Will probably always be my #1. Star Wars - KotOR - Bought an x-box for this specific game and I was disappointed. Had a lot of depth and side stories and could rival any of the recent Star Wars movies. Metal Gear Solid series - As a whole this is one well thought out and complex game in terms of storyline. One of the more in depth ones around. Gameplay is just fantastic. Silent Hill series (particularly #2) - A psychological scare the absolute crap out of me type game. This game is so damn freaky and not the jump out type scare but psychologically which is probably the only game I have played that has that aspect to it. Resident Evil series - Like above a scary game/series but more jump out of glass type. Resident Evil 1 was the first game I ever played on PSX and I still remember the dog jumping out of the window in the hallways. Scared the living daylights out of me. All the main Resident Evil games (1,2,3,4) have been truly excellent. God of War 1 & 2 - Amazingly good storyline, great gameplay. Just too short. Final Fantasy XII - Was anticipating this game for a long time, especially after the crap that was 10, and it never disappointed me. Sonic the Hedgehog - Played this when I was little and still play it today. Will always love it. Madden series - Football. Enough said. I know I have probably forgotten one or two, but that's my top list for now.
I completely forgot about Sonic 2 for Sega Genesis, but yeah, it's somewhere on the list as well. As for Silent Hill, I remember I was like 12 years old or something and my friend used to love Silent Hill. And he wanted me to play it, cause he used to be like "this game is so damn scary man, you gotta play it" and I remember playing it for a while and the game actually worked up a scare within me. I played Resident Evil, didn't really like it that much back then; Silent Hill was much more effective (in scaring me as a kid lol).
