This got into a pretty big debate in another thread, so I am starting it up here again. Post your opinion :happy0144:
This is a pretty good debate since these are both players that are mainly just scorers. I choose Okur for this one though. Big Z is getting old and you'll start to see his scoring drop while Okur is still pretty young and shouldnt get any worse. It looks like he really did improve last season though averaging 18ppg and 9rpg which Big Z has never done. They are also both really good free throw shooters for big men which is good. Another thing I like abotu Okur is he can make the 3 ball once in a while while Big Z has never mde one in his career lol. I'm mainly just choosing Okur because it seems he easily has more left in him than Big Z does and should be in the league for another 10 seasons atleast unless he gets some horrible injury. He is really healthy though and hasnt missed a game for two seasons in a row nbow so thats always good.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas 7'3" 265 31 years old 15.6ppg/7.6rpg/1.7bpg/50% FG Mehmet Okur 6'11" 250 27 years old 18ppg/9.1rpg/.9bpg/46% FG Post Offense: Mehmet is a more perimeter oriented player but his moves and work inside is undervalued. I've watched him three times this year and was impressed with how smart he is inside. But Zydrunas definatly owns this category, he's one of the best post scorers in the game and has very impressive moved inside. He has a great hook shot for how big and slow he is he's as fundamentally sound as anyone inside at the moment.Advantage - Zydrunas Ilgauskas Post Defense: Mehmet's defense is underrated because he gets bashed for it because he's a European player. He's not a great post defender but he's much better than Zydrunas. Zydrunas is a very good shotblocker but a very poor rebounder because he's so slow and has slow lateral movement. Mehmet's a good rebounder but nothing special but obviously better, Zydrunas gets beat really bad on defense because he's slow to react due a lot because of his giant size. Advantage - Mehmet Okur Shooting: Mehmet definatly has better range and because he's so much quicker he can get out to the perimeter and shoot longer shots than Zydrunas. Mehmet isn't a sniper by any stretch because he shoots only 34% from three but he has a nice midrange jumper and the fact that he hits so many threes it makes him unique. Zydrunas has a nice jumper but it's not better than Mehmets.Advantage - Mehmet Okur Bottom Line: Last year I might have picked Zydrunas but not anymore, Mehmet is a big offensive threat and was a huge suprise for Sloan this year. He's coming into his own and for a lot of the season Okur averaged 20ppg which is unheard of for centers. But Zydrunas's shotblocking presense and inside post moves are really nice I go with Okur now.Advantage - Mehmet Okur
if Z didnt have the injuries he would just be owning okur. either way i'd still pick him over okur. because of his fundamentals and he has a pretty shot.

Big Z's big injury was in his sophmor season and in his thrid season. He has been overall really healthy for a while now. He only missed 4 games last year.
Maybe he means if he didn't have the three major foot injuries Zydrunas would be much better today...eh..like you said that was a while ago who cares.

I'd kinda have to see another great year by Okur before I can choose him in this one. Z has been a consistent center for 4 or 5 years now, so It's hard to pass him up for Okur, when Okur's only had success for one year.

Anyways, I'd take Okur over Ilgauskus too. Z is too slow and can't do a lot of things Okur does mostly on defense. Also, Okur is a much better shooter. Z may be the better interior player with his height advantage, but his speed can really kill him at times.

I'm going with Big Z because it's hard to find a 7'3'' man like him that has nice post moves as well as a mid-range jumper, and is also one of the best offensive rebounders in the NBA. The only reason, the ONLY reason Z's stats aren't as high as Okur's is because Okur plays with guys that aren't huge scorers, it's pretty well balanced between Okur, AK, and Boozer (when he's even healthy), and also Harp. But Big Z plays with LeBron James, a guy who has the ball in his hands 3 times more than any player in Utah, and also Larry Hughes, plus Marshall/Gooden combine for 20-25 a night together. Sure Z is slower, but he's bigger, has a better arsenal down low, and is GREAT on the pick-n-roll. Who care's if Okur can shoot 20 footers better than Z. You really don't need that too much from a true big man, at all. Sure it's nice, but I would rather have a guy like Z that controlls the paint and is a better post player.
Memo. He's more athletic, he can move better and do more things offensively. He's younger. It frustrated me when that big f*cking clutz has success on the court (Z). It's so damn ridiculous that he made the ASG two years ago. That's really bad for the league.
If we are discussing Big Z's and Memo's 3 point shooting, then go shoot yourself , because Centers arent supposed to shoot 3 pointers.
