At a coffee shop a guy who claimed inside info, claimed that the Blazers were in discussions with Detroit to get Prince. I don't know this guy and he is likely full of crap, but I figured ask if anyone else had heard this rumor.

This was the stated rumor, which I did check and works according to the ESPN trade machine

Portland trades:
Raef
Martell
2009 1st rounder

Detroit trades:
Prince
Kwame

Oh, he said this is offered by Portland after KP turned down a different one that included Przybilla.

At a coffee shop? C'mon now. Like random people at coffee shops have any idea of what is going on.

I'd rather have gotten Billups. It would be cool to have Prince and Prince Junior at SF.

I like Prince, hate Kwame, but if this is real I'd be on board with it.

As I said, it likely is a bowl of crap, but I had to ask here because he just seemed to be telling the truth. I figured that if there was any truth to it someone here might have also heard the rumor.

Kwame is a decent backup big and arguably could beat out Frye to play some time at backup PF.

We get the best player in the deal anyways, so I would say this is a great deal for us

Replace Martell with Travis and winner winner chicken dinner.

The only reason I see this even being remotely plausible is because I see Detroit in full on rebuilding mode, but they are already going to have Rasheed and AI's massive contracts coming off of their books this year, so I'm not sure how valuable getting 12-13 more in cap space really is, unless they think they can hold some of that over until the following 2010 FA period

It's a good deal with Martell. It's a great deal with Travis.

Interesting, and we are basically trading 2 players that haven't played on this year's team, so the minutes crunch becomes even more problematic. We will see if it materializes, and if so, I doubt KP is done before the trading deadline or Nate will have a tough job this season dividing up minutes.

Not that big of a minutes issue. Prince starts at the 3, with Batum still getting his normal 12-15 minutes. Outlaw moves to primary backup at the 4. Frye and Ike wear suits.

NBA people don't go to coffee shops? Maybe they are all at the tea-houses.

The likely hood of running into an NBA executive or someone tied to NBA executives at a coffee shop and them just sitting around having a cup of joe and discuss future trades is highly unlikely.

How pissed would you guys be if Prince became available AFTER we used our assets to trade for Jackson? I am a huge TPrince fan. As I am a Billips fan. Not sure what Dumars is thinking but he does seem to be rebuilding.

I like this trade for the present and future. Prince is 8 years older than Batum and still has a lot of good basketball ahead of him. By the time he slows down Batum will be primed and ready.

Nic would have a great mentor as their size/skill set are nearly identical.

i would sure love that deal. i'd love it more if outlaw was included too but ill take it either way. prince is becoming a star IMO

Kwame? So he can tutor ODen as to how NOT to be a #1 pick?

Haha, repped.

Why would the Pistons give up their best defender, and probably best all around player. They obviously picked up AI thinking that they could make a push to win the east. To Trade Prince now would be counter productive.

Dumars said before that he only wanted one of our big three. I think he's sticking to that, he got Iverson for Billups. Iverson may be an expiring contract, but Detroit might also want to keep him. You never know.

I don't think Dumars acquired Iverson to make a push in the East. Billups is a better player than Iverson, and fits better with the rest of the team. I think he made the deal because Iverson is an expiring contract. Rasheed Wallace's deal also expires at the end of the season, as does McDyess'. I think Dumars saw a chance to retool without becoming uncompetitive and took it.

That said, I don't think Dumars would trade Prince (for odds and ends from Portland, anyway). Prince is surely one of the players Dumars plans to retool around.

Well, thanks everyone for the responses. Since nobody else heard this rumor I am going to consider it a pile of crap. Too bad, I was excited when I heard it.

Yeah, I would be excited too, if it were to happen. Prince would be a perfect fit for the team, and giving up only Outlaw/Webster, a pick and cap space would be a steal. Which is why it's really not that believable.

Actually, there is roughly an inverse correlation between how popular a rumor is, and how true it is.
Unfortunately, now the whole board has heard this one, so it cannot be true. If you'd kept it to yourself it would have been true.

Doesn't sound like anything KP would want.

I doubt he rates Prince higher than TO or Martell.
