One of these are Drummond's college stats, and one of these are Kelvin Cato's college stats: 6'10, 270 lbs, 10.0 ppg, 53.8% fg, 29.5% ft, 7.6 rpg, 2.7 bpg, 2.2 fpg 6'11, 255 lbs, 10.9 ppg, 54.7% fg, 54.0% ft, 8.1 rpg, 4.1 bpg, 2.8 fpg I know Drummond is young and has 'potential'. But he certainly hasn't 'done it' yet.
One was kinda old when drafted (almost 23) after 3 college seasons (2 other seasons were lost to inelginility/transferring). The line you're showing is the best, and final, season of Cato (I believe). One is young for his class, and only went to college for one year. There's a 5-year gap in their ages when drafted.
Definitely an age difference. But until the younger one actually puts up the stats, it's just 'potential'. That word scares me.
Well one at 18 had a much better first season than the other at age 20. And the one season at 18 nearly matches the other's ones best season (who was 23 at the time).
Greg Oden shot 62% ft in college with his left hand because he injured his right hand. I remember people talking about how much better he's going to be when he's able to shoot with his right hand (potential). In the NBA, he shot 66.6% ft with his right hand. I'm not saying Drummand won't be good. He certainly has the NBA body. If he's going to succeed in the NBA, I think he's got a lot of work ahead of him. I think he's a risky pick.
I'm not totally sold on Drummond, though I really do like his potential. I think he's going to at least be a solid defensive presence and anchor. That being said, I just am not sold on the Kelvin Cato comparison. I don't think it's a good comparison. That's all.
It'll be interesting to hear Chris Haynes' take on why they are talking to Cleveland. If we can find out who the Kings are targeting thats likely the reason why the Blazers are trying to leapfrog Sacramento.
Drummond = Dwight Howard or Darko? http://aol.sportingnews.com/nba/sto...valiers?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
Well being in the top 5 ensures one of T-Rob, Drummond, Beal, or MKG. Sullinger/Barnes seem to be considered another tier. The Cavs reportedly really want Barnes, but probably know 4 is a bit high for him and dropping a few spots could allow them to get him at a better value plus add another asset. Who does PDX want? Really hard to say. MKG plays the same position as Batum but I doubt they rule him out if hes there. The other guys play positions of need for Portland. Who does Sac want? They seem to like Thornton at SG, as they moved Tyreke to SF for him. They also seem to be done with Tyreke altogether. But they likely just take whoever from the top 5 is there, even if its Beal. The key here is that neither Barnes nor Sullinger is a very good fit for PDX given that they already have Batum and Aldridge. I think they'd probably love to get any of the top 5 guys, but they know Petrie isn't letting anyone slip past him. As a Warrior fan I really hope they try to get in on the Cavs' pick. Barnes could be there at 7 should the top 5 all go according to plan and then Portland takes Lillard. Would absolutely love to get MKG or Drummond but TRob or Beal is fine too lol. We have the 7, 30, 35, and 52 picks in this draft. Not sure there's enough there to get it done, but we also have Dorrell Wright (expiring as well), Jeremy Tyler, Charles Jenkins and can take back Luke Walton, though all of that may be of little value to Cleveland.
If that is the case I want him. However, he could be years away from developing and then another team would end up getting use of him after the blazers spend years developing.
Drummond tested out very well in the athletic tests. The specifics wont be released until later this week. Physically and athletically, his combine numbers are similar to Mourning: Drummond: 6'9.75" w/o shoes | 7'6.25" wingspan | 279 lbs. | 7.5 BF% | Age: 18 Mourning: 6'9.5" w/o shoes | 7'6.5" wingspan | 249 lbs. | 9.1 BF% | Age: 22
Well, which? Those two are not very similar. Jordan is a dunker and little else, while Chandler is a great defender. (Jordan is barely adequate.) What worries me about Drummond, besides the fact that he apparently doesn't know how to play, is that he's a surprisingly mediocre defensive rebounder.
They're more than similar offensively. Defensively Chandler is a better man defender while Jordan is one of the best shot blockers in the NBA. I see Drummond as a guy that will have everything set up for him offensively while being able to protect the rim on the defensive end. His upside is higher than any in the draft, but I'm not sure how close he'll get to reaching it. He's a big project.
NBAdraft.net with an update: Drummond rises to #2 Lillard at #6 (over Beal? come on, son!) Leonard rises to #10 Terrence Ross at #11
About the same amount of time it took Jordan to lock down the starter spot for the Clippers Although he was playing behind Kaman with Dunleavy as his coach
I will say though despite comparing Drummond to Jordan, I think Drummond could be easily turn out to be a better player. Jordan has absolutely zero touch on anything he does. IMO Drummond flashes a lot more touch and even made some 7 footers last year.
It is going to be interesting...it seems after the combine quite a few players are rising. It's going to make for a very fun draft because honestly, after Anthony Davis I don't think anyone has a fucking clue of where people are going to go.
