According to Vescey he is still very interested in our President position and would even be interested in being Brian Shaw's assistant during home games:

Why isn't Phil Jackson the president of the Blazers?
Sources close to Phil, and I mean very close to Phil, tipped me off to the fact that he was definitely interested in the president's job and still is. There was contact made before Olshey had the job and he was supposed to meet with Paul Allen. Once Olshey came in, that never happened. The perception from his people is that he was frozen out. He thought Olshey didn't want the power to shift, obviously, because that's what would happen.

As far as coaching goes, so they offer him the coaching job. That's not really what he wanted. As I wrote the other day, his people told me he would have come on board as an assistant for Brian Shaw at home games. People scoff at that, like he's too big to coach. He's been through a lot -- I'm not going to try to defend him -- he went through another hip surgery or knee surgery, a replacement, he had a number of them. He had to sit in a special chair the last few years.

I think he wanted a year off from coaching, maybe never come back and coach. But it did interest him and it still interests him to be president of the Blazers

The pieces may be starting to fall into place when/if Shaw is hired as HC.

Phil Jackson as an assistant coach....... that.......is........hilarious.

If there is someone less reliable than Jaynes, its Vescey.

Phil as President and an asst. coach during home games... that'd be crazy! good or bad??? but crazy.

So somebody refresh my memory, why would Phil Jackson make a good president?

Vescey makes it sound like Olshey and Legarrie are committing some kind of grave subterfuge keeping Allen from interviewing him for the position, but utterly fails to provide any rationale for why Jackson would be a good fit as a CEO.

why?

The president is the business person - sponsors, ticket sales, Rose Garden issues, and so forth. The GM is the basketball person. I can see Jackson wanting to be GM but why would he want to run the business side? Doesn't make sense.

No doubt Vescey is unreliable. Figured I'd pass it along. It'd be an interesting move though, nonetheless.

I LOVE this idea. Phil as prez/ part time assistant to Brian Shaw = Win in my book.

It's Vecsey not Vescey :)
Just saying as it seemed every single one of you would misspell his name (who gives a fuck, but as it is a Hungarian name and I am Hungarian, it hurts my eyes a bit :devilwink:).

As for the topic, I don't want him as our president and I would be shocked if he were to be.

Phil Jackson has interest in joining the Trail Blazers in a non-coaching role, a source close to the legendary coach said, but it is unclear whether owner Paul Allen has interest in Jackson.

“Phil would be interested in talking about a possible role in the organization,’’ the source close to Jackson said. “My sense is there is a lot Phil can offer by being there, be it handling players, advising trade scenarios, managing coaching staff ... I think he would be a tremendous advisor to the owner.’’

Allen has not responded to an interview request by The Oregonian.

In the spring, Jackson’s agent Todd Musburger spoke several times with then-Blazers president Larry Miller, who wanted Jackson to coach the Blazers. Jackson eventually told Miller he wasn’t interested coaching, but he left feeling “pleased and impressed” with the Blazers, according to the source close to Jackson.

Miller resigned on July 6, and Allen said he would open a national search. Jackson has yet to be approached as the Blazers are engulfed in free agency and a coaching search.

“We told them he didn’t want to be head coach, but that we had interest in Phil speaking with Paul,’’ the source said. “Is that door still open? That’s up to Paul Allen. But Phil is open to a conversation.’’

Jackson, who turns 67 in September, won a record 11-NBA titles as a coach _ six with Chicago and five with the Lakers - and two as a player with the Knicks (1970, 1973). He is widely regarded as the greatest coach of all-time and is known for his leadership and ability to motivate.

Since retiring after the 2011-2012 season, he splits time living between Los Angeles and Montana. He was born in Montana and went to high school in North Dakota.

I think that Phil Jacksons name alone would bring credibility to the franchise, which in turn would bring more $$ to the franchise.

I wonder how Olshey and Phil would work together.

He gets to be Pat Riley. He lets someone else build up the team, and if and when they're ready, he takes over as coach.

As funny as I think it would be to have Phil as the asst coach and President, I think it would lead to problems.

That's the problem... I get the feeling they wouldn't gel. Phil would probably get in his way too much.

I would let Phil have his way. His resume is far more impressive.

Can't blame Phil for wanting to dip into PA's pocketbook a little bit.

To me, this is the biggest bang: credibility. Phil would bring a "Phil Jackson in Portland? They must be doing things there" vibe that could attract sponsors and free agents. I think that whatever PA pays Phil will earn double that when all is said and done.

Meyers Leonard can do cartwheels, this pales in comparison.

Sounds good to me. But if we were to get Shaw I doubt he'd do that.

I've been impressed with Olshey so as long as there's no issue there it'd be pretty cool. This entire organization could use some zen.

I thought most felt that the Blazers needed a non-basketball type in the president's position? What type of marketing/managing/budgeting/planning/outreach/organizational experience can Phil Jackson bring to the Blazers? I don't see any of those being Jackson's strong suit...

Maybe he would bring Jeannie with him and let her run the business side. Out with Mensah, in with Jeannie

Phil Jackson butted heads with management in Chicago and in LA

I don't think him and Olshey would be a very good fit

Then there's Bert Kolde
