CNN late Friday deleted a story from its website that claimed Senate investigators were looking into a Russian investment fund whose chief executive met with a member of President Trump’s transition team, later issuing a retraction in the story's place.

The now-deleted story, by investigative reporter Thomas Frank, was published Thursday and cited a single, unnamed source who claimed that the Senate Intelligence Committee was looking into a "$10-billion Russian investment fund whose chief executive met with a member of President Donald Trump's transition team four days before Trump's inauguration."

But by Friday evening, the story had vanished from CNN's website. It was not immediately clear when the story was removed, but a tweet linking to the story, from CNN's Politics account, was also deleted sometime Friday evening.

After noticing the story's disappearance, BuzzFeed News contacted CNN. More than an hour later, an editor's note appeared on CNN's website. A company representative sent BuzzFeed News a link to the note, but did not answer other questions about why the story was removed.

"The story did not meet CNN's editorial standards and has been retracted," the editor's note said. It did not say which parts of the story failed to meet the company's standards. The note also apologized to Anthony Scaramucci, a member of Trump's transition team and an adviser to his presidential campaign, who was named in the report.

A source close to the network, who requested anonymity to discuss the matter, told BuzzFeed News the story was a "massive, massive fuck up and people will be disciplined." The person said CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker and the head of the company's human resources department are "directly involved" in an internal investigation examining how the story was handled.

Who says I don't post editorials?

The NYTimes picks and chooses what editorials to post or put in their paper.

But that's not an endorsement of the views and opinions expressed in the editorial.

Actually it is, regardless of any disclaimers.

They won't post an editorial by Alex Jones.

You're confusing op-ed with opinions posted by a paper's editorial board.

From the NYT op-ed page.

We need a diversity of voices and opinions about a range of topics. Anything can be an Op-Ed. We’re not only interested in policy, politics or government. We’re interested in everything, if it’s opinionated and we believe our readers will find it worth reading. We are especially interested in finding points of view that are different from those expressed in Times editorials.

Do you know if Alex Jones has ever submitted an editorial to the NYT?

They want lots of "progressive" voices and opinions from "conservatives" when they agree with the NYTimes' stances on the issue.

I googled "nytimes pro trump" and found this;

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/12/...then-trump-must-be-doing-something-right.html

By a conservative, but the piece bashes conservatives and right wing media.
Try googling Trump hates the NY Times and you'll start to understand....he baited the entire world of journalism all through his campaign and continues to do so.....needless to say, a lot of New Yorkers dislike Donald Trump going back to the 70s...it's hardly some new invention.....fake news comments are designed to make all journalists look like lobbyists...a Trump trick. Sorry you fell for it. You're dislike for the New York Times is filled with your bias against their brand...you think I don't read Fox news....you're wrong....I don't watch news but read articles that get my attention and make my own judgements...just like you do. I often wonder how our founding fathers ever put this country together in a pub without internet "fact" checking......they actually must have thought their own thoughts...Ben Franklin posted his opinions all the time in his own publications...Bill O'Reilly posts his own opinions....on and on.....I really do think some folks in this era of info overkill could have a conversation without a bunch of articles to reference someone else's ideas on the subject....

In which Denny Crane makes the startling discovery that the NY Times has a generally liberal editorial point of view.

Stay tuned for the next episode where he examines the Wall Street Journal and finds no evidence of rightward lean.

Doesn't matter what Trump did to offend the media, they should do their job.

http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/334897-poll-majority-says-mainstream-media-publishes-fake-news

“Much of the media is now just another part of the partisan divide in the country with Republicans not trusting the ‘mainstream’ media and Democrats seeing them as reflecting their beliefs,” said Harvard-Harris co-director Mark Penn. “Every major institution from the presidency to the courts is now seen as operating in a partisan fashion in one direction or the other.”

(google Mark Penn)

Trump’s job approval rating is at 45 percent approval and 55 percent disapproval in the latest Harvard-Harris survey. Gallup’s annual survey on public trust in the media — conducted before the election — found that only 32 percent trusted the press.

However, the Harvard-Harris survey found that 60 percent of all voters believe Trump is treating the press unfairly. Only 48 percent said the media is treating Trump unfairly.

This is beyond "generally liberal POV."

It's become unpaid advertising for, PR for, and political activism for the Democratic party.

I tried to share the Mad Magazine's take on Trump.....I'll take the blame for that...it was intended as humor. I've never posted an article from National Lampoon or the Berkley Free Press to support my views here but then again....I don't cut and paste Soldier of Fortune magazine articles either...but I'll read something from them in the waiting room at the dentist office. My dentist hates liberals.....he could actually be Marz

“Every major institution from the presidency to the courts is now seen as operating in a partisan fashion in one direction or the other.”
we have a long, long history of this in America....what I've learned to search for is trust in print where I can find it....not segregating brands of periodicals and assuming they reflect my neighborhoods culture...they usually don't....a guy in Manhattan is pretty out of touch with rural Oregon and vice versa

what's strange about all this to me denny is that you actually post more of their articles here on S2 than I would ever read if I didn't participate here...you are an advertiser for printed info and stat sheets.....I personally prefer conversational political or social discussion over paper mountains of data striving for reasonable doubt

If I posted Alex Jones articles, you would deny any truth is possible, simply because of the source.

I don't deny the NYTimes can publish the truth from time to time. But as the article about the media said, democrats see the media as reflecting their beliefs. So I cite sources YOU can't refute because the source reflects your beliefs.

This is just purely condescending talk....I think we're done here....choices.....Go Blazers

I don't accuse you of anything. I just assure my source isn't dubious to you or to me.

Three CNN Employees Resign Over Retracted Story on Russia Ties

Haris, Lichtblau and Frank had solid reputations among their colleagues.

Frank worked as reporter for USA Today and Newsday before joining CNN. Lichtblau is a former New York Times Pulitzer-Prize winning reporter. And Haris was a former executive editor of CNNMoney.

Nothing new really. Cable news worried about ratings? Never!! Lol

The thing to get out of that video is "Russia story is bullshit" - said by the CNN producer. So they're running this story over and over in spite of it being "bullshit."

Is that what we need from the 4th estate?
