I trusted Clarke and Gorton, but now I am not sure. I did read this AM that the Russian has very high end skill and is not your typical low end compete Russian. Compared him to Kuz. Would have been rated higher, top 10 for sure, if it wasn't for the Russia factor.
With that said, we have way too many dmen prospects. We have way too many RFA's to sign them all. We have nearly 30 mill in cap space. Gorton has to be active today/over the next 8 or 9 days. If he is not we are going to field a team of mostly kids that will be a lower level team next season. I have to think some moves to improve are coming. It is difficult to rebuild without top 3 picks, so if that is his only plan we may be bad for 3 or 4 years at least.
I will also add, the trade he made last night was terrible. Said it at the time, and say it again now in the light of day. To deal a mid-2nd rounder to move up 4 spots to # 22 is ridiculous really. Double so when you consider the Blues dealt a pick in the 70's to move up 4 spots to 25. That was an awful move by Gorton, he WAY overpaid. The only saving grace is he must really like Miller to give up a valuable pick like that to move up a mere 4 spots in the 20's.
Gorton needs to get his stick on the ice and start improving this team, not just with 17 and 18 year olds that are 3 years away from making an impact.
