The potentially unrealistic part of that scenario is either (let alone both) of those guys accepting contracts starting that low. I mean, signing Hood and Kanter to deals which combine to be less than what Meyers makes?
It really going depends on who goes after them and how much. Kanter Hood Curry I don't how team has them on there radar. It might depends how they do in these playoffs. Now about trades for ET and Leonard will you have someone that actually wants them. I can see ET with our 1st but I don't see anyone that wants Leonard. If we trade Leonard it will part of a package trade and he is thrown in.
Kind of why i say more must than realistic. They got to figure out a way to bring back some of them? It's either that or work some more magic and find some players that have hidden value that are coming off an injury or just have not been in the right situation again. Neil has pulled that off now a few times. Picking up Curry was brilliant. Guess they could try to rely a little bit on growth from within again. But they have to do something with the center position. IMO Nurk is not gonna be back the first half of the season next year.
I don't agree on Meyers Leonard. His numbers are as good with more minutes. His on court play is better on every level. There is a team that needs him. He won't be a starter but he will play in the league for another 5 years at least. Good team mate and solid stand up individual is valuable on a bunch of teams. Watch him go to the Nets?????
Unless there is some type of handshake deal (which no one can find out about), I just don't see them taking deals for that low. POR should have an injury exception as well but that will also be around $6,000,000 (half of the injured players salary). Maybe Kanter loves it here enough to give a discount but to make that much less than Meyers etc, that seems like asking a lot.
Have you ever watched him on defense end really watch him. Now if it just for his offensive and I am not saying he not good team mate because he is and overall good guy. But defensely especially in the PNR he has no clue. Yes he can bang with slower and bigger centers. That's why he be added in player on any trade.
Injury exception seems unlikely, as that would require an independent medical review to conclude that it is unlikely that Nurkic plays again before June 15th, 2020. There would have to be a major setback in his recovery for that to be the case.
Which of course we all hope isn't the case. It just sucks that he won't be available for so much of the year and we don't really have the resources to re-sign Kanter unless Enes agrees to something quite out of the norm.
Come now please. Let me tell you a little about Meyers. And yes i watch him. Everyone on this board has watched him. The entire team talks to Meyers about their matchup. They do this because Meyers is an absolute encyclopedia of knowledge on opposing players. If you were watching yesterday on one play he actually called Hood from one side of the court to the other and set the screen to run a decoy that opened up Curry for an open three. Stotts did not leave Meyers in the game because of the rotation that Donovan was using. Billy played Paul George 43 minutes. The combination of Noel and George was not good for Meyers. Matter of fact if the Blazers were playing Nurk you would have seen more of it and they would have used Morris a bunch more. You can bet that Donovan will have to adjust. There is no way he keeps running PG that hard. Meyers will impact this series as soon as that happens. That or Aminu will have a huge game. The Blazers have some of the same players they had last year but they also added a couple scorers in Hood and Curry. Game one that fire power gave the Thunder fits. Remember Jake didn't even play. We all know Layman can come in and effect a game. The unconditional Meyers hate is boring at best. Meyers plays defense. He is a big and does demand attention on the offensive end. That factor creates fatigue of the other teams bigs and it gives Enes and Collins some rest. Last game Stotts went with Collins and Meyers for 5 mins. Billy had to put PG back in the game. If you can't see that effect then i don't know what to tell you.
I really don't think good players signing for the tax-MLE is that out of the norm. Brook Lopez signed for less than that this year. If Kanter keeps playing like this it will make that more difficult though.
but nobody knows if Jody Allen gives a shit about Portland making it to the next level, or if she's willing to pay millions to make it so did she even attend a single game this year?
Nurk/Kanter is the best bigman combo we've had since Sheed and Z-Bo. Similar combos if you think about it. Assuming Nurk fully recovers.
Quick has an article on her, but it's behind that freaking paywall. https://theathletic.com/924692/2019...-of-paul-sees-her-team-snap-its-playoff-skid/
Kanter's value in the NBA is at least the full MLE, potentially even a bit higher. He'd really have to love it here to take a deal for less, IMO. Maybe he does, but he also seemed to like being in OKC at one point--he may just be the type that generally gets along in locker rooms.
I'll be surprised if he doesn't get an offer over the full MLE, so it's going to have to be a case of him wanting to be a Blazer and being willing to wait at least a year for them to clear enough cap space to give him more.
There are a lot more free agents available this year than money available. A third of the league will be entering free agency. Mid tier guys like Kanter will get squeezed. I'd bet anything he doesn't sniff MLE. It wouldn't surprise me if he takes a short term deal and tries again next year when he has less competition in free agency.
Correct, as has been pointed out. But there is no way to know who quickly that will heal. Most estimates have him out well into next season with no complications. Add in a 285 lb man is on those bones let alone running and jumping at an NBA level and it could easily be longer.
