Eh. I think that's overstating it a bit.

    8th in minutes / -8.2 on-off, didn't play much in the finals

Defensively is where I want to see the biggest improvement. He's a flashes guy right now with good tools on the ball and chasing shooters.

Still lacks the size to be super versatile though and his focus and discipline are very inconsistent.

It's why every advanced stat with a +/- component has had him as a negative defender for the majority of his career:

    • 5-year RAPM (luck-adjusted): -0.88
    • 5-year RAPTOR: -0.60
    • 5-year LEBRON: -0.82
*Rough averages on LEBRON and RAPTOR

This is a huge win. Powell wants to win and have a defensive team. We just locked this dude up and he was never leaving. Win or lose i am thrilled this guy chose us.

Sure. He is on a reasonable contract; you can trade him for draft picks.

The Blazers won 2 games, and no one was at Dame's level. But he was great in that 1 game.

I’m very pleased with this free-agent signing of Powell.

think about this for a moment…..could this be the biggest unrestricted FA deal in Blazer franchise history?

Powell chose Portland! Tells us a few things:

    1. Dame trade chatter is now over. Dead.
    2. Good chance CJ is moved
    3. Gave up on Zach! Finally! A forward coming our way via trade?? Or was Zeller the replacement?

this could really get exciting over the next 48 hours!!!

A reminder: we already had Norm when we got spanked by a Nuggets team missing their second-best player. In the first round.

Finally have another core piece...locked up for 5....when the casual NBA fan can name your starting 5 you've got a core identity...we haven't really had that since the Wes, Batum, Lamarcus, Dame and Rolo Blazers....can't wait to get back to a core that plays not only an entire season together but multiple seasons together...Go Blazers!

This deal is fantastic because if something were to happen and Dame wanted out and we wanted to blow it up... this contract is very valuable. A team would receive a solid two way guard on a very affordable deal that they have him locked into for years. That would bring a good return back.

The only reason I say it this way is because Norm posted "let's run it back" ugh. That's the exact thing Dame said he wasn't cool with. So any way you slice it Olshey did a great job for the team with this deal.

I’m cool with this. Keeps the team flexible. Open up for trades in the future and this time we didn’t loose em for nothing.

Neil did very well... it's not often you get to say that. Maybe Dame's press conference was the wake up call he needed and he'll turn himself into one of the best execs in the league. We'll have to wait and see.

This might be the best contract Olshey has ever given out (outside of possibly Dame? which is no-brainer). I mean it outdid even what most forum members were hoping for in less per year.

Fans have been completely belligerent and delusional today thinking Neil couldn't and wouldn't get anything done when we have plenty of examples saying otherwise. Today's another. Looking forward to more soon.

    Cheers!

    It is interesting.

I’m going to go ahead and fantasize about there being a trade on the table and it’s promising enough that NPow was willing to sign to 5 years on that contract.

I love option A, if we could pull that off I wouldn’t even be upset about my Nurkic jersey and I’d still wear it.

Really though, Dame and Nurk have played well as a tandem. We’ve seen that Dame can absolutely destroy defenses on the pick and role with a capable center. You put Dame and KAT on the same team and it doesn’t take them long to mesh. KAT is an extremely talented big; would be a MASSIVE upgrade.

KAT is a much better shooter too - Dame and KAT would be lethal, CJ would be expendable.

    DO IT NEIL!

BoomChakaLaka doesn’t even care about getting credit for doing your job for you, just make it happen.
