<div class="quote_poster">durvasa Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">It could be anyone who wears ridiculously showy (which is precisely what gaudy means) jewelry. That refers to all sorts of people. Do a google search if you don't believe me -- it's not exclusive to hip hop.

But even if it was (and it's clearly not), who cares? The point still stands -- if you're going out in a public area where people can do you harm, you only put yourself in more danger by advertising your wealth. NBA players apparently like to wear that "bling" out in public, and frankly I think it's stupid for exactly that reason. Who cares if it's a part of the hip hop culture? It's also part of glitzy, socialite, celebrity culture. It doesn't matter.

Looking at rap music videos, apparently profanity, violence, and mysogeny are also a part of the hip hop culture. Does that mean I shouldn't look at those things negatively, because I'd be "blaming hip hop"? That's rubbish.</div>
That's very shallow statement. All NBA players don't "like to wear Bling". Some don't even wear that much jewelry. So what ur sayin isn't making any sense. Ur singling out a few players, and painting the whole NBA all in one color. I've seen quite a few Rockets in Houston, and I have yet to see any of them with any "guady jewelry". Does that mean it's ok for them not to carry a gun because David Stern's crappy opinion?

What does ur opinion on "rap videos" have to do with any of this? Mostly ALL videos have a combination of violence or sex. Either way it's procieved as negative. But it seems you single out rap and then come to ur silly conclusion.

What is crappy about stern's opinion? He doesn't want his players to stay alive and out of trouble. Wow, what a jerk.

You're right. It was a generalizaton, and perhaps it wasn't fair. I'm talking about the players who do wear that jewelry and still feel the need to protect themselves by carrying a hand gun.

You completely misunderstood. I never said they were exclusive to rap music.
Looking at them negatively doesn't mean I'm "blaming hip hop" -- precisely because they aren't intrinsically linked to rap music. They are problematic, regardless of where they originate.

    As I said:

I understand that many, many NBA player were thugs and they growed up in a ghetto and they need to protect theirselves. But I think that it's even shows bad inspiration to the kids. They look like: "Wow Stephen Jackson is my favourite, he has a gun everywhere, I need one, too."

    This story has two sides...

Dude how old are you? This is prolly the most ignorant opening statement I've heard. "I understand many NBA players were thugs and GROWED UP in the ghetto". I don't think you even know the % of players who grew up in poverty. Let alone, being from the ghetto doesn't equate to being a thug. Ask Tom Delay or Dick Cheney.
