How should (can) the Nets get rid of Sean Williams?

Can the Nets get anything of value for him in a trade? Should they send him to the Development League and hope that he miraculously learns how to play basketball?

With Lopez, Boone, Anderson, and Yi, there is clearly no place for him on the team. He has no basketball skills or court awareness and his potential is limited. Eventually he might turn into a guy that can play spot minutes as a shot blocker, but as of now he is an enormous liability. There has to be some team that is willing to take a gamble on him, right?

We're not going to get a better player than him in a trade anyway. At least he has potential, no reason to give up on him when we're not under any pressure to do so.
 
Definately D-League.

The chances of someone risking giving something good are slim. The chances of him improving are much higher which means no point trading him for crap right now.
 
Nate Robinson; though the Nets would just be getting rid of the next Amar'e Stoudemire for someone who isn't a basketball player - just an athletic guy who can jump high and shoot occasional 3's.

Nate Robinson's game is more like Amare's than Swat's is. Nate has his faults in that he is a chucker... he's not a PG by any means. But he has legit skills. If he was 6'4, he'd be an All-Star. I would love to have him come off our bench and tool on a 2nd unit. I think he'd build morale in the locker room, he goes crazy when his teammates succeed.

I know, I was being sarcastic for the numerous people who agreed with those sentiments. If I remember correctly they were:

1. Swat can turn out to be Amar'e. I couldn't say otherwise since I didn't watch him as extensively as the Nets front office.
2. Swat >>>> Nate. It is foolish to believe otherwise.
3. Swat is not a distraction at all and the Nets should not worry about this in the future
4. Dooling > Nate
5. Nate is not a basketball player, just an athletic guy who can dunk and shoot 3's
6. Nate is a malcontent and a distraction
 
sean for marco belinelli makes perfect sense, we dont have the playing time available to see have sean develops but we might be able to give belinelli good minutes to see if he develops

Lolz. I don't know how many people here remember that dude from JBB who said that every time a player does bad, he should go to the D-League. For example, T-Mac had a bad game and he said "They should send his ass to the D-League. Dude is garbage" Or Tim Duncan "He's soft. D-League".

Agree with most your sentiments, but the Nets really don't have to worry about SWat as a head case.
 
what is the urgency? Boone is still hurt and swat is contributing in his own way. Why do they have to do anything just yet?? Why don't we just play it out, the more he gets to play he can only improve and learn the game. Remember he has only played in like 100 games in his whole life....
 
He's coming off his first full season of professional basketball, when he never played a full season of college and to the best of my recollection only played one or two years of high school.

As much as it might be popular to give up on his prospects here I think he should be sent down to the D-League where he can play and play a lot. He won't flourish sitting on the bench here or anywhere else we trade him.
 
I think we should just keep him and let him get his minutes any way he can. I don't think D-League is the answer because I think that could hinder any confidence he has in his game(even though at times on the court looks zero to none). Might as well let him play against NBA players and he has done an OK job on some players on the defensive end. With the injury bug hitting us like crazy this year I think it would make more sense to let him stay with the team.

Well, Dooling is better than Nate.
 
This guy has had plenty of time to develop his game in the NBA and he hasn't. Vince Carter said in the preseason that he thought Sean came in looking much improved and ready to step up (Remind me never to put V.C. on my scouting crew). I am convinced when I watch this guy play that he has the skill set of an average middle school basketball player and the athleticism of a freak. Unfortunately you can not get by with your athleticism at the NBA level. He is embarrassing to watch at times and he makes me cringe as a coach.

He doesn't seem that fragile to me. If anything, he seems to be kind of stubborn.
 
Really? I thought Dooling is a MUCH better defender. Sure, both are shoot first type players, but I believe Keyon plays harder defense than Nate and has made some pretty big shots for us thusfar into the season.
 
I do not want Sean to get traded he is my favorite Net and he still oozes with potential. I think when given time this year he has performed well despite the foul trouble he has gotten himself into on just about a nightly basis. He still has plenty to learn and I would much rather have him on this team than Boone. If you trade anyone trade Boone, Hassel or Swift. Or better yet, all three. Boone is such a liability on the court with his free throws Brook is 10xs better and I would much rather give his minutes off the bench to Sean. As for the D league point that his been brought up--I hate the idea, anyone remember how unimpressive his summer league play was? He needs to play against the best players to get better, for him its just a matter of getting playing time before he becomes disinterested. He's still young and still has alot to learn about the game of basketball but there is no way I give up his potential and room for immense growth unless its a part of a deal that gets us a stud player back. At this point we can get way more for Boone and I would much rather go with a rotation of Harris/Carter/Simmons/Yi/Lopez with Dooling/CDR/Hayes/Anderson/Williams as the second unit. Trading Williams would be a big mistake, he has the potential to be a Ben Wallace type who dominates the boards and gets around three blocks a game..

What type of complete game are we talking about? He's not the better scorer, rebounder, or passer. On defense, I'd give him the edge, but Nate has greatly improved on defense, averaging almost 2 steals per game. He's not as efficient either.

Here we go again, you think I don't watch the Knicks, he's a talented player can explode offensively on the court, he can force steals , crazy athleticism, but the complete player another words the guy that can control his heat check shots, can play defense smarter, can score smarter is Dooling. Back to the defender that is Dooling... he atleast stops dribble penetration, Nate is still raw he plays on emotions, on the crowd not on smarts, this is like that BS arguement you gave me how long ago about David Lee's imaginery jumpshot (What happened to that BTW ? & yes even after his double double vs DET). You seriously want to know who makes your team fundamentally smart and isn't talked about...Chris Duhon, you watch him he rebounds, he boxes out (a lost art), defends 1 on 1 w/ the best of the PG/SG in the league, stops dribble pentration and has a high IQ on the court, doesn't turnover the basketball, he also rubs off on Q and Chandler. So yeh I'd take Dooling over Nate by a slim margin but I'd still take him over Nate complete game-wise.

Dooling is this high IQ player now? He plays out of control often... he tends to drive the lane, leave his feet, not be able to find a man and have to force it up. He does force shots up too much for a PG.

How is Dooling the "smarter" scorer if he averages fewer points and shoots a worse percentage? Dooling has questionable shot selection which is reflected in his mediocre 43% FG. The notion that Dooling is somehow this poised point guard is laughable and above all fictitious and you know this. As Brooklyn mentioned, he has frequent spurts where he is out of control. As for this "he controls his heat check nonsense", when you shoot 47% from the field and 40% from downtown like Nate, coaches tend not to mind your heat checks. Every NBA player has heat checks, especially players who have career averages over 9 points.

Nate has also done a much better job finding his teammates, averaging 4.2 assists. Dooling is averaging a career high 3.1 assists per game, an atrocious stat for a 9th year veteran "point guard". And for a 6’3, long, athletic guard, Dooling is averaging an abysmal 1.7 RPG (talk about that lost art). Nate averages just about as many offensive rebounds per game as Dooling does total rebounds.

So, you are basically calling a tweener who doesn’t rebound, pass well, or shoot a high percentage from the field a "complete player".

Dooling is the superior defender, but Nate is no slouch either. His two steals per game lends credence to the fact he is becoming peskier on the defensive end. But Dooling being the better defender doesn’t nearly make him the better player.

As for David Lee, I said he was developing a jumper, which he is. I believe we were having this conversation around preseason, and if you check the preseason shot chart for David Lee, you can see where I got my evidence. And if you watched the Pistons game you would have seen him nail a couple of midrange jumpers over Rasheed Wallace.

Although he hasn't connected on his one jump shot attempt, he still has managed to put together 20 points and 10 rebounds at halftime. Very Josh Boone-esque :wink:.
