He's not going to get better through practice alone. He needs minutes, and the guys in front of him other than Lopez are only marginally better than he is. Do we really care if we win 25 games rather than 20? He's definitely not the worst player on the team. He can be a game changer if used right, and is their most athletic player. Every big guy they have is a below avg. big man, even Boone. There is nothing to lose by playing him. You can't truly evaluate him by 2 minutes here, 3 minutes there. Those guys you mentioned (Planinic, Wright, etc.) were all given lots of chances, a painful amount. Williams had a decent run for awhile when he was starting last year and didn't kill them. This is a lottery team, he needs to be in the rotation.
At the expense of who? Take Najera out of the equation. You have Boone, Yi, Lopez, and Anderson that are all deserving of minutes over Williams. Najera will probably get minutes at the expense of Anderson and Simmons. You can absolutely get a sense of a player through practice.
Najera is not playing the 3, he's at the 4. There is room to work him in at the 4 with Anderson and Yi. If Anderson isn't hitting his shot, he doesn't do much out there.
You just said all three of those guys are at the 4. And that statement about Anderson is ridiculous. He is a much better ball handler, shooter, scorer, rebounder, defender and passer than Williams.
So do DNPs. And it looks like he's got a lot of those coming. Better off getting PT in the D-League than warming up the bench for VC's next finger jam. EDIT: Before maxamillion/FOMW/other notable VC fanatics start shooting steam out of their ears, I need to make clear that I fully appreciate having VC on the team and I think he's a brave man for playing through his injuries. Thanks in advance guys.
Yeah I'd definitely be for putting Sean in the D-League. He'd miss out on competing against pro-level talent...but he is now by sitting on the bench. Plus, he needs to get his fundamentals down, which he can do by playing against D-League talent.
The d league would help him, but there always is a chance of injury there. Its a rough league. But Sean is a project signed till the end of next yo ear. I wouldn't mind sending him down there for say a month to get his act together. Right now i'm real impressed with Ryan and Brook and Yi. They are playing well and are progressing from the summer league to the preseason now to regular season and contributing good numbers. Maybe not enough now to win, but they are getting better with each minute they play. Sean is not taking advantage of his minutes to contribute to the team right now
I've been for sending him to the D League since this summer. He needs a lot of minutes. However, it will impact his trade value if he proves he can't even perform well down there. If they are re-signed to the concept that Williams will not be a part of the future, and are looking to trade him, I could see them not doing that.
Playing Sean Williams will only hurt his trade value even more. Then everyone will see what a scrub he truly is.
*Quoted and sigged As for Sean, he will get PT. As dumpy has noted several times before the season began, there are going to be injuries. That will be his chance to make or break it on the team imo. Any other PT he will get will most likely be garbage minutes
