Blazers make offer for Vince Carter

I'd be interested if we swap Frye for Sean Williams in the deal.

The New Jersey Nets and Houston Rockets have exchanged trade proposals and continue to talk, according to league sources and sources close to the Nets. One scenario has Carter and Josh Boone going to Houston for Ron Artest, Carl Landry and Luther Head.

But another Texas team remains very much alive in the Carter sweepstakes. The San Antonio Spurs' package for Carter would include Roger Mason Jr., George Hill and Bruce Bowen, the sources said. The Nets would have to make other moves to clear roster room for the additional players they take back

Well, considering we offered Derek Anderson, Nick Van Exel and our #3 pick the last time we tried to trade for VC, I'm not surprised.

I continue to think that we're going to make two trades. One including RLEC. The other including our other expiring contracts/options (Frye, Diogu, Outlaw, Blake) plus a draft pick. One for a SF, one for a PG.

Really????? Sean Williams is an underachieving idiot headcase asshole - and those are his good qualities. The dude basically got kicked out of the D-League. New Jersey had to recall him because their D-League team had enough of his shit. He sounds like a taller, less talented version of Bonzi Wells. Do we really want that on our team?

BNM

Yeah, if the VC deal doesn't include RLEC I might do it for scrubs. VC isn't really worth that much in my view.

get me carter, jefferson or butler....i dont fucking care as long as sergio and outlaw are gone.

as long as we upgrade at SF i will be content...i cant take batum anymore as a starter

and btw....who the f#@k is gonna play backup PF????? Not may. we will need another deal.

Do you have a PG in mind for this target? I can see the SF targets all over the rumor vine. PG though, seems very limited.

That trade doesn't sound to bad to me. My only concern is does Vince give us stability for a nice run in the next five years?

eh...it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but:

1.) He doesn't help our greatest weakness - defense.
2.) While he's not a head case, he's also not exactly the guy I want providing veteran leadership.
3.) He will want a good amount of shots, and I don't think some of our guys, like Oden, get enough as is.
4.) He is much older than our nucleus.
5.) He's the 18th highest player in the league and is signed through the 2010-2011 season.

That would be Epic. Oh to be KP's blackberry right now.....

I have a feeling home boy has been earning his pay. And I FULLY do not expect any thing to happen until late Wednesday or early Thursday. KP will wait this thing out to get the best deal possible. Cuz that's what he does!

I hear an echo in the far off distance, and it sounds like a PRITCH-SLAP!!!

god forbid..... we get a seasoned vet.

noooooooooooo, id rather watch outlaw lose his guy every night

I wouldn't be so harsh in how I said it, but I basically agree with you.

I would much rather have Wallace or Butler, but I think I would actually rather have Carter than Jefferson. But any of those 4 would be an upgrade at a starting spot on our team.

And what I like about this trade is that Batum, Bayless and Rudy are all kept. So as time progresses and they up their game, we harvest the rewards.

carter is a poor defender as a SF, and offense isn't really our problem. considering the cost i'm not sure how he really makes sense for us.

"not too bad"? Are you kidding. We're trading the most attrative bargaining chip in the league for a chronically injured, often unmotivated superstar on the decline of his career? Not to mention that Outlaw has been pretty clutch and is still improving (debateable by some, but its true).

he'd help with our toughness....he hasnt been arrested yet so far in the nba...
watch him play for a few games and you'll change your mind. He's physically gifted, but he's got a long, long way to go mentally before he can be anything in this league. And he's got a terrible attitude, read up on how much of a pain in the ass he was in the d-league, before he got more or less kicked off the team.

3 options.

Portland could try a 3 man rotation of LA, Oden, Joel

Channing Frye

Ike Diogu

Channing was a decent backup last year, and Diogu looked good in limited playing time....not the end of the world if they are our backups.

Chronically injured? Are you kidding? Games played last few years, counting backwards from last season: 76,82,79,77,73. Has played in all their games this year. That's a very good last 5 years. But feel free to cite thoughts from 2002.

At the same time, some positives:

1. About the time he left the team, the next SF in line would be much better prepared to play and start (Batum, or Webster).
2. If Ime Udoka can provide leadership for this team in previous years, I am sure Carter can.
3. He will get his shots from the buttload Outlaw used to take. I look around the team and I don't see a lot of players willing to help Roy with the load. Vince will help.
4. Him being older is part of the point. The Blazers need a player with experience.
5. He is being paid that much because his production is good.
6. I don't buy your line about defense. Carter can play defense when he wants to. I do agree he coasts when he feels his team doesn't have a chance, but he won't feel that way here.

last but not least lucky number 7:

7. What does San Antonio do to keep their team competitive from year to year. They bring in older, experienced players who are hungry for a ring, and keep them a year or two. Over and over and over. You know it has lead to championships. Finley. Horry. Thomas. Willis. Person. Those are just a few names. Keep the lineup hungry. You will win rings.

He's a solid defender. I don't know whether he'll provide leadership, but is certainly well used to playing in big games and taking big shots in the playoffs. He's older, but Portland isn't giving up much in terms of their future for him. He makes the team better now, and Batum can replace him in a couple of seasons. His salary isn't much of an issue...once the team extends Aldridge and Roy, cap space is going to be a non-issue anyway.
