That would be Epic. Oh to be KP's blackberry right now..... I have a feeling home boy has been earning his pay. And I FULLY do not expect any thing to happen until late Wednesday or early Thursday. KP will wait this thing out to get the best deal possible. Cuz that's what he does! I hear an echo in the far off distance, and it sounds like a PRITCH-SLAP!!!
god forbid..... we get a seasoned vet. noooooooooooo, id rather watch outlaw lose his guy every night
I wouldn't be so harsh in how I said it, but I basically agree with you. I would much rather have Wallace or Butler, but I think I would actually rather have Carter than Jefferson. But any of those 4 would be an upgrade at a starting spot on our team. And what I like about this trade is that Batum, Bayless and Rudy are all kept. So as time progresses and they up their game, we harvest the rewards.
carter is a poor defender as a SF, and offense isn't really our problem. considering the cost i'm not sure how he really makes sense for us.
"not too bad"? Are you kidding. We're trading the most attrative bargaining chip in the league for a chronically injured, often unmotivated superstar on the decline of his career? Not to mention that Outlaw has been pretty clutch and is still improving (debateable by some, but its true).
watch him play for a few games and you'll change your mind. He's physically gifted, but he's got a long, long way to go mentally before he can be anything in this league. And he's got a terrible attitude, read up on how much of a pain in the ass he was in the d-league, before he got more or less kicked off the team.
3 options. Portland could try a 3 man rotation of LA, Oden, Joel Channing Frye Ike Diogu Channing was a decent backup last year, and Diogu looked good in limited playing time....not the end of the world if they are our backups.
Chronically injured? Are you kidding? Games played last few years, counting backwards from last season: 76,82,79,77,73. Has played in all their games this year. That's a very good last 5 years. But feel free to cite thoughts from 2002.
At the same time, some positives: 1. About the time he left the team, the next SF in line would be much better prepared to play and start (Batum, or Webster). 2. If Ime Udoka can provide leadership for this team in previous years, I am sure Carter can. 3. He will get his shots from the buttload Outlaw used to take. I look around the team and I don't see a lot of players willing to help Roy with the load. Vince will help. 4. Him being older is part of the point. The Blazers need a player with experience. 5. He is being paid that much because his production is good. 6. I don't buy your line about defense. Carter can play defense when he wants to. I do agree he coasts when he feels his team doesn't have a chance, but he won't feel that way here. last but not least lucky number 7: 7. What does San Antonio do to keep their team competitive from year to year. They bring in older, experienced players who are hungry for a ring, and keep them a year or two. Over and over and over. You know it has lead to championships. Finley. Horry. Thomas. Willis. Person. Those are just a few names. Keep the lineup hungry. You will win rings.
He's a solid defender. I don't know whether he'll provide leadership, but is certainly well used to playing in big games and taking big shots in the playoffs. He's older, but Portland isn't giving up much in terms of their future for him. He makes the team better now, and Batum can replace him in a couple of seasons. His salary isn't much of an issue...once the team extends Aldridge and Roy, cap space is going to be a non-issue anyway.
Just another thing to throw out there. If Tmac is truly having serious health issues, one of the best things the Blazers can do is make sure Houston does not work themselves out of a jam and end up competitive by end of season, when we can sweep in and take the player they are trying to get.
i dont undertsand why everyone is so pumped.... rockets are the front runners. jefferson is our only real option
Yea you know what would be funny. Say the Rockets win out. They pull the trade at last minute, and then McGrady fails his physical and Thorn, rescinds the trade, but no more deals can be made because the deadline has passed. Both teams are stuck with players they tried to trade for the rest of the year. How do you think that would go over?
Isn't that actually the number for the whole team at the SF position, in which he shares with wonderful defenders like "Yi"? Remember Carter plays SG mostly in NJ. Where are you drawing your stats from? Edit-I went and looked it up, and you are looking at the opponent PERS from the SF position. Vince plays 92% of his time at SG in NJ. The opponent counterpart PERS at the shooting guard position is 17.6 http://www.82games.com/0809/08NJN5.HTM Now if you look at Vince's, his PERS is 21.8. So from night to night he wins more than he loses. The problem, you don't really have anything at SF to compare with.
But Carter's production at the SF position is 26.3 PER http://www.82games.com/0809/08NJN5.HTM#bypos There's others on my trade list higher than Carter, but Carter's on the list. Carter is so athletic, he may be able to play into his 40s. I suspect his defense will improve some when he's back in the thick of a meaningful playoff run, too.
I wonder if KP is really THAT enamored with Vince, or if he's trying to broker another deal somewhere else. Does KP feel pressured to have to use the RLEC and Vince is the best he can get? I'm still on the fence with Vince. Great scorer to go alongside Brandon. I just hope if we got him, he'd be willing to fit in with the team.
except that he's the Nets' SF 8% of the time, and their SG 62% of the time. Judging his opponent's PER off of 3.84 minutes/game is a waste of time.
Isn't Cater the exact oppostie player KP said he was after? KP said if they make a trade it is not to get better for this year but a trade that will help them be better 2-3 three years from now.
He's played so little at small forward this season that I wouldn't put a lot of weight on that. He has an opponent PER of 7.2 at the PG position, but I would take that to mean he's a brilliant defender at the point guard position. Of course, if he was, we could use that too.
