We can only hope a trade is on the horizon... http://nypost.com/2014/05/01/tanaka-the-only-dependable-cog-in-yanks-collapsing-rotation/
...meh, typical Joel Sherman mindless banter...not saying CC and Kuroda are not a concern, just saying Sherman is a hack. ...here's some more of his garbage...fans who booed Cano were "hypocrites"; http://nypost.com/2014/04/30/returning-star-cano-deserved-better-from-yankees-fans/
I don't think he was so much booed for leaving as it was HOW he left, claiming that 7 years & $175M was an insult.
A trade could happen, they have to be in that mind at this point, but doubt they can find a decent arm, and it's hard to stay positive with both CC and Kuroda looking cooked, and Pineda going down, who is going to come in and overcome that? only so much one starter can do.
...but that's not how Sherman painted it...and I'm still wrestling with the rationale that the Yanx somehow "disrespected" Cano.
Many Yankee Fans respected Cano, not our problem that he saw himself as disrespected. Not managements problem either, they mad him a pretty fair offer. One thing that is not mentioned is the fact that Cano may would have been heir apparent to being the man and I don't think he could handle that. I won't say he "sold out" he turned down a fair offer for better money but not necessarily a better situation.
...evidently a plaque in Monument Park and almost certain enshrinement into Cooperstown were not enough to sway him. ...now he's playing in "Siberia" where I don't expect his numbers to be anywhere near the same.
It was always about the money. To me, Cano was not a leader; he preferred to be a follower; the attitude was ' just let me play baseball and I'm happy'. It was his choice to leave. No one disrespected him....if the amount of money offered him by Yankees was "disrespectful", that falls on his priorities and no one else. He lost his chance to part of Yankee folklore; it was not important to him. Have a good life. Adios. BTW....I learned a whole lot about Cano when he showed an unusual intensity playing for his country, Domenican Republic and his usual casualness when playing for the Yankees. As a Yankee he always had a lackadaisical persona; seldom showed any intensity.....I knew then that he had another level to him which never came through as a Yankee player. It was more important to play for his country than to play for the Yankees. That's my take.
The thing that's such bullshit is that technically the Yankees offered him more.................. Yankees 7 years @ $175M = 25M per Mariners 10 years @ $240M = 24M per
...never really thought about it that way. ...but I have to agree that he seemed to have a different approach when playing in the WBC.
WBC how many games.... Major League Season...162 games plus post season this guy gets hammered about has lack of intensity or hustle...in his last seasons as a yankee he missed 14 games.... there is a lot of pride among the latino community to play for their country. you see that in the NHL with the Olympics as well. cant blame a player for being even more intense in a short tournyment.
...when you get the kind of contracts some of these players get, yes, you CAN blame them...it's called "professionalism".
Outstanding points, well said. Possible retired number, monument in the park, more money per year, less years big deal? All to play in "Siberia" with a promise, but no follow up/thru, to build a Team with a supporting cast. Robbie will die in obscurity, in SIBERIA aka Seattle....(there's a reason why Seattle is the suicide capital of the US). In this case, Career Suicide.
No doubt, I always admired Robbie's consistency playing in 160 games year after year, give or take a game or two. That much I admire(d).
The guy did everything one can do in ny. Won a championship. So he went for the money...you wouldnt? This thing about legacy...retired number monument... that's all bullshit. Its jealousy that is pouring out shouting how dare you walk away from new york. Every player should dream of being a Yankee. . Blah blah blah. Very few people. ..if not a handful, would turn down that deal...an additional 72 million. If you can honestly say you would. ..your a better person than me. So it brings me back to jealous hypocritical fans with the booing. Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
...I'm really surprised that your fingers don't simply explode when you type...Robbie "won a championship"?...really?...love people who give individuals credit for TEAM accomplishments...lemme guess, you're referring to the 2009 post season...let's review; ALDS .167 .167 .167 .333 ALCS .261 .414 .478 .892 WS-- .136 .130 .136 .267 ...but yeah, Robbie "won a championship"...lmao. ...and this outpouring of "jealously" is only apparent in your alternate universe...why should Yankee fans be "jealous"?...you seem you be using the wrong terminology here...and I'm still waiting for you to explain how the Yankees "disrespected" Cano.
