If he's going to sign it then why doesn't he just sign the damn thing? Does he think he's going to get even more money?
How do you figure? Isn't it that he could sign a 4 year extension that starts at the end of this upcoming season, or he can sign a contract at the end of this next season for 5 years.
extensions can only be for 4 years, including the current year, so essentially, 3 extra years is the longest they can be, if done in the expiring year. if there are 2 years left on a deal, you can only extend to 4 years, so an extension of 2 years. and so on. if he plays out next season he will be able to sign for 5 years.
It's a 3-year extension versus a 5-year extension. Both start after next season, and have nothing to do with the last year of Aldridge's contract he signed under the last CBA.
