@BlazerFreeman: .@Dame_Lillard on @aldridge_12 verbal commitment to signing extension w/ #Blazers next summer: "That was great news. I think he’s ..." (con)

@BlazerFreeman: .@Dame_Lillard cont: "...the best player on our team, well on his way to being the best Trail Blazer ever. He makes the game easier for me."

@BlazerFreeman: "I’m looking forward to the next 5 years, 6 years, 7 years, 8 years— however long it’s going to be," @Dame_Lillard on LA's long-term pledge.

"Right now," @LaMarcus Aldridge intends to re-sign with #blazers. But plenty can change in a year's time pamplinmedia.com/pt/12-sports/2…

If he's going to sign it then why doesn't he just sign the damn thing? Does he think he's going to get even more money?

How do you figure? Isn't it that he could sign a 4 year extension that starts at the end of this upcoming season, or he can sign a contract at the end of this next season for 5 years.

extensions can only be for 4 years, including the current year, so essentially, 3 extra years is the longest they can be, if done in the expiring year.

if there are 2 years left on a deal, you can only extend to 4 years, so an extension of 2 years. and so on.

if he plays out next season he will be able to sign for 5 years.

It's a 3-year extension versus a 5-year extension. Both start after next season, and have nothing to do with the last year of Aldridge's contract he signed under the last CBA.

In order to have a 5 year, he must play out the existing contract.

I don't get why LMA doesn't sign 7 three year contracts and play for the Blazers for the next 21yrs.
