Nike is nearing a long-term apparel rights deal with the NBA, according toSports Business Daily.

The report says Nike and the NBA have completed the 'framework' of an agreement that will be presented to ownership and the league's Board of Governors today and tomorrow. Multiple sources told Sports Business Daily that Nike and the league are still 'some distance' from finalizing a signed deal, with plenty of details still to iron out.

The new deal would take effect for the 2017-2018 season, when Adidas' rights expire. In March, Adidas announced it would end its partnership with the league to invest in individual player sponsorships and in basketball on the collegiate and high school levels. Adidas' current 11-year deal is valued at over $400 million. A potential Nike deal is expected to be worth more than that.

According to the report, Nike's central competitor is Under Armour, but the league greatly values the overseas reach and distribution and marketing capabilities of the former, with globally-popular players like LeBron James and Kobe Bryant on its roster of sponsored athletes.

Speculation is that the new uniforms will likely include third-party ads, which NBA commissioner Adam Silver has called "inevitable." Sources told Sports Business Daily that Nike's deal will allow the company to place manufacturer logos, i.e. the swoosh and Jordan Brand's Jumpman, on uniforms for the first time, although those details have not been finalized. At present, Adidas' logo appears on team warmups and fan gear, but not game uniforms.

The NBA has said it hopes to announce its new apparel provider this spring.

Nike? Fantastic!

Third party ads were coming, like it or not. Didn't matter which apparel company was going to get the contract. The NBA has been dead set on it for two years now.

That sucks. The garbage they put out for the NFL is hideous.

Of course this isn't related to them trying to push the shirt jerseys for the past couple of seasons.
cough. . Ad Space . . cough

I wouldn't be surprised if one day we see knickers instead of shorts in the NBA.

Adidas has put out a crappy product for team gear - the selections available for the Blazers are few and boring.

Nike just signed an 8 year contract with the NBA...

Nike and the NBA have agreed upon an eight-year deal for the brand to become the league's official apparel provider.

The two sides were reportedly close to a deal in April.

Adidas will continue as the apparel provider until the 16-17 season.

The Nike swoosh will appear on the uniforms, which will be a first for the NBA.
Fuck. The floodgates are about to open!

Ads on sleeves. I can't think of a more repulsive idea. They will lose so much in jersey sales, that I don't it's worth it. I think it's a bad look if they try to make a cheap buck at the expense of the fans. I would think they could come up with more creative ideas then "oh lets just slap logos on them". Bleh

The worst thing about men's soccer is the fact that neither the team's home city nor the team mascot is visible on the fucking jerseys. Well, worst thing except for the greasy Eurodouche floppers that play the game at the highest levels. And the fact that games end in ties. Oh, and the foul-mouthed hipster douchebag nitwit American fans.

Id rather them out ads on the court near the sidelines.

if the ads are chosen by the teams, having a filthy rich owner should keep it somewhat classy? heres hoping.

who inherits the team from PA?

I'd say Moda probably has the edge for a Blazer decal

Begs the question "Could Adidas then buy ads to stitch onto a Nike Jersey?"

I'd be ok with the bottom of their shoes or even the laces as well. Flopping may increase exposure if they're on the soles of the shoes

the whole reason why I will never buy a Timbers Jersey is because that mother fucker says Alaskan Airlines BRIGHTLY on the front.

I don't work for Alaskan Airlines!!!

And if I did, I wouldn't be wearing my uniform on my off day!!
