Freeland to Moscow?

I hope Joel gets an NBA deal, he is good enough to play somewhere in the NBA, and I'd like to see him once and a while.

Me too, but I'll bet Moscow is offering more than he can make as a journeyman bench warmer in the NBA.

He won't be in a Blazers uniform

I'm not sure I understand why we aren't re-signing him ourselves. Sure, we've got a lot of big men right now, but big men tend to be fragile (usually bodies, but in rare cases, egos).
He's young, he's a hard worker, he's not awful. Seems like he should fit.

He has also improved every year too. Would love to see him back. We could do alot worse for a third center.

I understand the right business decision isn't always the one your heart wants but...

Mr. Allen and Mr. Olshey, can't we please have one of our favorites, who wants to be back, back? I bet he'll come cheap!

I wish him well, just like Victor Claver...you can only spend so much time in the prime of your career being a cheerleader...Both those guys needed to play basketball. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get an offer, but the money will be better for him overseas. If he stays in the NBA he's going to be a Nick Collison for the duration. Great defender, not very quick but solid fundamentals and a bit of a streaky mid range shot. He'll land on his feet.

There has got to be a team in the NBA where he can be the 4th or 5th big man, right? Now that we have seen the type of players that Olshey prefers to sign, Joel just doesn't seem like an Olshey type of player.

You'd think he'd land somewhere as a 2nd big, New York or Washington or even Miami could use him

The east offers him better chances at playing time and there are those direct flights to his home in Spain

At this point the Euro-league probably offers more money, as well as shorter games/seasons. Better odds of staying healthy and becoming something more than a good back-up.

I want to see him on the Clipps. I think he'd eventually become their starter and with the rest of the talent around him play quite well.

He nearly matched Rolo production when Rolo first got hurt. Then Joel got hurt as well but if he hadn't he was on the edge of breaking out. Had some nice double double games and great defense.

At 28 doesn't have much room for improvement. Very fundamentally sound and might help us win a few game which we don't want. Better to get a young player who either makes mistakes so we get a higher draft pick or really improves their game and becomes a valuable asset. We have plenty of big man depth with 5 legit bigs and Aminu who can slide to the 4. Its also possible we have to acquire a big man as part of a larger trade. If we sign Joel then any of those deals would make our frontcourt uncomfortably crowded.

What happened to the barfo I used to know? Posting all the time? Apparently being sincere? I blame aliens.

All this is true, but you know Joel would prefer to stay.

He's English. His "home in Spain" was just because he lived there for a few years in his early 20s. His dream is the NBA. CSKA is a very nice fallback plan.

I don't know why the Clips don't target him, myself.

I agree

@MikeAScotto: Source: Joel Freeland has declined 3 NBA offers and has interest from top euroleague teams. He will make a final decision around July 10th.>>>>>>

I know he's English but he's lived in Spain since he played there and lived there every offseason. He's made Spain his off season home and works out there

Really? I wonder what teams and what the offers were. Maybe they were for less than CSKA's offering.

The British love Spain and France. If I were English, and could live in Spain, I'd live in Spain, too.

Arh Riverman, we just can't let go of the Victor dream.

IMO Freeland is very underrated and could easy play c/pf and performed well above his paycheck last year! I think he helped develop Myers too.

I really like both of their games. Defense itself is underrated.

Its a shame they both had to sit behind LA the time they where, just when they started to show some promise they get shipped out...

I actually like Freeland's game better than Rolo's and Claver's better than Crabbe's

I agree. Above average IQ's to boot. Claver even started to develop an 3 point game. His farewell letter to Portland seemed more sincere then LA's IMO
