Pelton: Trail Blazers Are NBA’s Most Underrated

13 games over their Vegas projected 27.5? There goes a good Lottery pick while not making the playoffs. NBA Purgatory.....

I hope who they have develops but they need another Star/Superstar and that comes much easier for teams like Portland through the Lottery than via Free Agency. If they win 35-40 this season, they will be in the Playoffs next year but won't approach contender status like they will if they develop players and still get a top 3-5 Lottery pick. THAT team could be very good in a hurry while without another Star, they make the playoffs and climb as high as 3rd or 4th.

Personally I think Kevin Pelton's just trying to earn style points from the members of the forum.

How many lottery picks do we need? We have like 5 of them already, and none older than 25. Sure we can use someone like Ben Simmons but even if we had the worst record in the league the chances of actually securing the #1 pick is low. I'd rather win. If Portland wins 40 games this season, they're well on their way.

538 has us winning 38 or 39 games based on their total guess at utilization. More honed in models have us winning more, if we can keep up our production.

Pelton's taking a flyer on us, because he's local, but there's something here most people who aren't neck deep in analytics don't see.

Yeah we managed to cram a three-year rebuild into a single summer, if you're looking at young lotto picks.

Of course we are the most underrated team...what else is new

To win a championship in the NBA you need a superstar and 2 stars.

Right now we have a star.

I disagree...the Blazers won the 77 championship the hard way without a superstar and 2 stars... Teamwork, chemistry, and hunger win championships

To maybe help the question... how many lotto picks do you need on one team to sift through to find a second and possibly 3rd star?

The goal for this season should be to get a top 3 lottery pick.

What are they seeing that I'm not? I said 20-25 right? What does Vegas have us at?

I'll take it a step further and say we have ONE quality NBA starter on our roster.

We have enough lottery picks. I think we already have the talent to win a championship. They just need more experience.

That is so completely wrong. CJ is one of the best shooting guards in the league. Plumlee is a quality TEAM USA player so obviously a quality NBA starter. Aminu is a quality starter who was Dallas' best player in last season's playoffs. Gerald Henderson was a quality NBA starter for Charlotte. Leonard will prove himself this year.

Christian Laetner made the Dream Team, means nothing....... I love CJ and can't wait to see what he does this year. I predicted MIP award, but one of the best SGs in the league? Amin had one nice series in his career...... I have a feeling we will be disagreeing all season my good friend.

Keep in mind that in fall 2013, none of the TNT hosts (Ernie, Chuck, Kenny) picked us to make the playoffs. Nik and MM said we were mediocre, might not make playoffs. Mags, Natebishop, and I knew better. We ended up with 54 wins and made it to the second round.

Not too big a of a stretch. There are no good SG's outside of the top 5.
