It took minutes to develop. It might takes years to come to grips with. The Portland Trail Blazers summer plans disintegrated on Friday as the announcement came that free-agent Chandler Parsons chose Memphis over the Trail Blazers.

Miami we understand. Dallas, Chicago, New York, too. We'd have easily understood San Antonio -- where players begin the season with a chance to win a title. But Memphis? Where they shoot an airball every summer?

This one stings.

He is not wrong. I appreciate canzano calling on this one.

Hibbert didn't snub Portland, the Pacers matched.
Kind of. Hibbert used us as leverage and never actually signed a deal with us. He still could have signed the offer sheet if he really wanted to show he wanted to come here.

If it was worth the time, the rebuttal article is easy.

Johnny probably had three articles teed up in order to keep feeding the hate:
1) "I can't believe they signed (past-his-prime player X) to that money instead of investing in people in the team's age range!" (Horford, Gasol, Jefferson) -- not understanding that everyone in the team's age range is an RFA and likely matched (Drummond, Barnes) or is named Hassan Whiteside.
2) "I can't believe, with this team's history, they signed (player Y) with his injury history!" (Howard, Parsons, etc)
3) "I can't believe that we struck out on #1 or #2, so we're stuck with Role Player Z on a way-too-large contract!" (Turner, Biyombo, Mahinmi, Dellavedova)

The fourth article (we signed LeBron or Durant) would've caused every Blazers' fan head to explode, so he didn't even have to waste time.

a) As a planner for things with a lot more on the line than who comes to play basketball, I have a hard time believing that a guy with a projected 100M payroll and a mandate from his boss to win decided "I'm going to have one plan, and if it doesn't work I'll flop and twitch afterward."
b) I have a problem with the guy who was able to go through last year's fiasco and come out with a Western Conference Semi-Finalist all of a sudden not having contingencies for if his #1 priority fell through.
c) It's not quite IKPIT, but just because you and Canzano can't understand the logic of it doesn't mean I'm trashing the guy.

IKPIT?

What I remember was when Aldridge walked, I blamed the Blazers. Perhaps I was right or wrong, I don't know.
But I also remember this board climbing my case about how we are much better off, with Aldridge gone and Batum too! Look at all the cap room we have!!!

Now we have used it. WTF?

I agree with Cazano on this one

Dodged a bullet there.

Parsons never has and never will play a full season.

Hibbert flew all the way to Portland to sign the offer sheet and when the Pacers indicated they'd match Olshey told Hilbert he didn't have to sign the offer sheet.

I can see Canzano laughing histerically with glee right now like an evil clown

It's difficult for people who chose Portland as a place live to wrap their heads around it, isn't it? You love Portland. I love Portland. We live here. Now Turner lives here, too. Why wouldn't everyone else want to be here?

Canzano is right.

Neil isn't aggressive and makes panic moves:

Turner's $70m
Barton + #19 pick for a rental player in Afflalo

Fishing for supremely rare steals in the mid-40s will not work either.

It's funny...an interesting exercise would be to see how many 2nd-rounders right now are getting PAID over the last couple of years...and all it takes is a million or so of SPAMming (or less) to get their rights...

Whiteside
Marc Gasol
Parsons
(Honorable Mention: Jimmy Butler #30)
Millsap
Dragic
Deandre Jordan
Omer Asik
Draymond
Budinger
Pekovic
Barton
Danny Green
Patty Mills
Carl Landry
Josh McRoberts
Mbah a Moute
Leuer
Isaiah Thomas
Jeremy Lin (undrafted)
Ish Smith (undrafted)
Mozgov (undrafted)
....

a quick look at old drafts would probably dig up more, but that gets the point across that maybe, just maybe, digging for gold in the 2nd round could be worth it?

It was a completely brutal trade though

It was. Sadly the Knicks and Sactown didn't learn from our mistake and resigned Afflalo. Granted those are two of the dumbest organizations in the NBA, but even they should have learned from our mistake.

I will not judge this signing until at least 20 games in the season then I can make my opinion not until jumping out to early about a player might bite you in the ass. But you have the right to your opinion.

Should have traded Aldridge. Failing that, we should have made a lopsided trade with the cap space.

I have to believe we would have gotten at least equal value to Evan Turner, possibly much more, and much sooner.

Hey Sly! Been good. Busy, but good.

Loved the playoff run, but having trouble figuring out the plan to take the step we need to take.

How have you been?

Been good.

I have no idea on what the team should do. I am interested in what Plums does this off season. He impressed me during our playoff run.
