Really not excited about this hire. Is this really the best they could do? In Taggart's defense, Altman seemed like a meh hire as well, and look what he's doing. It seems the program misses out on better candidates because of personal recomendations. Chip with Helfrich and Dungy with Taggart. This program should have Chris Peterson running it......WHO WANTED TO COME HERE.

Really frustrated this morning. Hope I'm wrong

This doesn't move the needle.

Fuck.

All the fancy toys and buildings Uncle Phil bought us and the Beavers are a better destination for a coach?!?

Apparently he is quite the recruiter which is something the Ducks need again. They are losing out on the few prospects the state of Oregon has and that needs to change as well as making a bigger impact outside of the state.

Also that he is a Harbaugh guy....that doesn't hurt.

Out of the batch of guys mentioned that were a realistic possibility, he's the one I wanted.

Former quarterback, who ran a innovative offense at South Florida, great recruiter and his teams got better every year. Good hire.

Pretty underwhelming, honestly.

Unpopular question: Does this hire have anything to do with UO taking heat over racism lately?

Anybody know if this guy plays hurry-up offense, or are we looking at going back to a traditional huddle mode?

As long as we bring in a top notch DC and staff I can stomach this... but man, Fleck or Rhule would've been better options imo.

Got Link?

(Yes I'm lazy. Don't have time to waste on inferior news articles.)

Willie Taggart is a Home Run Hire for Oregon Football
Taggart...is a perfect fit for the new era of Duck football.
He may turn out to be a great hire, and obviously I hope he does, but I frankly saw nothing in that article to support the thesis of these two statements.
:dunno:

It can't get worse than Helfrich's shitshow this season.....hiring a guy who can recruit was the selling point...and not just recruit qtr backs and track stars but recruit linemen and tacklers who can actually tackle somebody....but all that said....you guys really need to start using the football forums for this stuff! No wonder it's a desert over there...

Well, there's the "Taggart is a program builder" section:
He inherited a disaster at his alma mater, Western Kentucky, in 2010....and capped his three-year run with a berth in the Little Caesars Bowl in 2012.
His four-year stretch at South Florida followed the same path...Taggart went from four wins to eight wins to 10 wins and tied Temple for the American Athletic Conference East regular-season title.
That's exactly what Oregon needs after Helfrich went from the penthouse to the outhouse

Then there's the quarterback development section:
Helfrich...went the FCS graduate transfer route for his last two primary starting signal-callers (Vernon Adams Jr. in 2015 and Dakota Prukop in 2016), only to see the offense struggle at times.

Taggart has done the exact opposite.

Quinton Flowers was a stud for Taggart's Bulls in 2016, passing for 2,551 yards, rushing for 1,425, accounting for 37 touchdowns and leading an offense that finished fifth in the country with 7.29 yards per play.

There are definitely indications that he has the ability to bring Oregon back to relevance in relatively short order.
