He may turn out to be a great hire, and obviously I hope he does, but I frankly saw nothing in that article to support the thesis of these two statements.
It can't get worse than Helfrich's shitshow this season.....hiring a guy who can recruit was the selling point...and not just recruit qtr backs and track stars but recruit linemen and tacklers who can actually tackle somebody....but all that said....you guys really need to start using the football forums for this stuff! No wonder it's a desert over there...
Well, there's the "Taggart is a program builder" section: Then there's the quarterback development section: There are definitely indications that he has the ability to bring Oregon back to relevance in relatively short order.
Gotta say, I like this quote from Taggart: "My goal has been the same since I started coaching: be the first African American head coach to win a national title," Taggart told SB Nation's Steven Godfrey. "I believe it can happen, I believe I can do it. I've never thought about the NFL. This [CFB] has always felt like a calling." As much as I liked Chip, you always knew the Ducks were just a stepping stone to the pros.
Here's a link to the O-live article about him. Don't know if it's "better", but it's an article. http://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/index.ssf/2016/12/south_floridas_willie_taggart.html Here's one on Fax Sports saying why it's a risky hire. http://www.foxsports.com/college-fo...io-wiki-salary-ducks-usf-south-florida-120716 Here's an SB Nation post on why Oregon hired Taggart. http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2016/12/7/13682892/willie-taggart-oregon-head-coach-hired
I'm optimistic, but I don't want to keep hearing about how Taggart is some kind of Harbaugh disciple. I'd be embarrassed to have that whining bitch Harbaugh as our head coach. I hope Taggart shows more class than that crybaby.
I imagine he's not a disciple of Harbaugh's personal characteristics as much as his coaching philosophies. It's not difficult to compartmentalize the two.
