Vucevic killed us tonight, so specifically looking at the 4/5 positions, who do you think is our best post defender?
Makes sense since the "world" doesn't have eyes..meyers leonard is the greatest all around player the world has seen
Part of the reason I started this thread is because I'm concerned that Leonard is our best 4/5 post defender. That's not a specific criticism of Leonard, it's a concern about the structure of our roster. I'm not panicking about it, just noting that it's an area that needs to be addressed (either by personnel, or by defensive scheme).Everyone hates Meyers but he's our best post defender...kinda surprised he literally gets zero love on here for post D
I agree that Lillard is a good post defender of players of a similar size/position. But he can't defend 4/5's.Lillard

In fairness to us, it's only because we've seen him play.Everyone hates Meyers but he's our best post defender...kinda surprised he literally gets zero love on here for post D
If Meyers has indeed become our best post defender, why not use him as a Center? His offensive game would make him a stretch 5 but that's not nessecarily a bad thing.
I think he could become a very key player for us. He's the most talented big we have offensively and we need some talent besides Dame and CJ on offense

If Leonard is our best post defender (and I, personally, am not convinced of that, but let's assume it for argument), it's largely because he's at his best when he doesn't have to move or make decisions. He's still a worse defender than the other 4/5s on the roster, IMO, at help defense or containing the pick and roll. Not that the others are great at that, obviously, but even if Leonard is the team's best post defender, he's more deficient in other (more important these days) areas of defense for big men.
And honestly, circling back to my initial skepticism at the premise that Leonard is the team's best post defender, I think his reputation there is built on a few good games. This is what leads to memes like "Leonard is the Boogie-stopper!" I personally don't think Leonard distinguishes himself from anyone else on the roster as a post defender.
Wut? His ONLY offensive skill is catch-and-shoot three pointers and he's currently launching a lofty 34%. He's also 7'1" and somehow only manages 38% on two point shots. That should be almost impossible. His defensive awareness is his biggest weakness since coming to the league but he's gotten better and we need his offensive abilities. Most of our players are just complimentary players on offense and Meyers is very gifted on this side of the court. He also usually plays with a lot of heart

He gives us 7.8 PER, can't defend the pick and roll, and shoots a sub-freezing 38% on two point shots. "Unique" indeed. He can catch and shoot 3 pointers and has a solid game facing the basket. He is a unique player which could be a blessing or a curse. We need to give him playing time and use him well. I think his plus-minus is mostly above the team average and he's important to our success. Prior to his injury he played very well for us and he gives us things the other bigs don't
