Did you notice how Myers Leonard tried to use a post move in the closing minutes? That's a great sign. This guy is getting better every year. Next year, or maybe the year after, he'll develop a really reliable post move and maybe even be able to score against another team's scrubs. I know it's been 5 years now, but big men take time . . .

If he said he was going to work on skyhook threes this summer I'd be more interested.

Lmao. Watching him timidly back down a shooting guard (who hasn't been able to stick in the league because of his DEFENSE) I mean wow. The entire Pelicans bench was laughing at him. What can you really say? When does pride enter the equation for Meyers? Like dude, you're getting your shit pushed in by guys literally half your size. It's like if I was afraid to post up a 10 year old at the park. Like what the fuck?
 
If you watch this video, you'll see him passively make excuses as to why he didn't come through. Pretty much "I'm not used to being the focal point." Then he goes on with some buklshit about "working on one on ones" this summer. Lmao. Like its some new concept he just learned about tonight.

I wanted to like him, he seems like a good guy and teammate, but honestly, fuck off already.

...seriously, it was like they switched to their smallest, weakest defender on purpose just to win some comedy side bet! The whole team was probably in on the joke. Another closing game with the ball bouncing off of his knee, no lucky Shabazz tap this time :sigh:

Oh shit! Did it really bounce off his knee??? When he got the ball the second time down in the post, I headed to the kitchen. Once was good enough for me....
 
This doesn't make much sense. After the Spurs game in which Meyers was perfect in swish3s in the first quarter, the Blazers stop succeeding by making open 3s to assign him to short FGA, not even trying the screen-pause-run the paint move that Nurkic has refined. Pat had the hot swish3 hand in this game, and there were a total of 13 made. That is good, but would have been better if they allowed for involving other hot shooters for more 3s throughout the game.

Although this game was not critical for standings, there was still value for getting stronger for the playoffs. The Blazers need to continue to develop points made from 3PA, and need to strengthen 2nd half performance with make swish3s.

Did you watch the game? They had Meyers on a short PG, and he fucked it up twice. They ran plays for him in the post. That made sense.

What didn't (and doesn't) make sense is why we still have him on this team.

That worked because he was not getting return passes from the guards to his shooting points and because they did not run him down the paint Nurkic style. There is much more offensive threat that he can offer when the Blazers optimize his talents for swish3s, screens, run the paint, blocks, rebounds, and center block outs.

We can use what we learned in these last 4 games to improve (and win) in the playoffs.

I meant that shorter, intentionally faster, guys can get close which bothers his shot. The counter move would be to use variations off of the pick and roll to get the open shot that Meyers favors, and has used for 50-100% swish3 shooting.

The counter move would be for Trash Leonard to get his ass in the post and back the guards down for the easy 2 points like any decent big man would do.
 
Olshey needs a complete do over this summer. I love Crabbe, and think some people really under rate him. He is expensive though, so he should look to move him. Leonard and his 10 million per need to go also. Turner is a HORRIBLE fit with this team. Those three equal about 35 million.

MM in your opinion do the Blazers make the playoffs after Nurk goes down without Turner guarding the other teams wings?
Specifically the Minn games where Wiggins was going off on Harkless.
I fully understand you didn't want to see Portland in the playoffs.
 
I thought the coaching staff covered post moves in rookie training camp. They practice this in college, do they not?

Since we basically finished two games ahead of Denver, and Turner had a negative +/- in two wins since Nurk went down, my answer would be yes.

I though, unlike a lot of fans, focus on the big picture. He was shitty early on, so without him then, maybe we get the 7th seed? He's a bad fit
