I didn't say I watch it regularly.... Yeah, something like that. I don't remember all the details though. There's a new plan introduced in February that's probably going to go through eventually. It involves widening I-5 and extending the Max into Vancouver. I just can't see a big market for the Max in Vancouver. Waste of tax payer money. And it's not like we want street kids and homeless people coming here.
Besides a new I-5 bridge we need a 3rd Columbia crossing. Something west by Kalama, a giant 205 like project that will allow I-5 traffic to completely bypass the Portland metro area. Won't happen but it would be nice.
It'd be a hell of a lot cheaper to just elevate the tracks that go through Lloyd and Downtown then have another "big dig" type project. If this happens 40 years from now as is being suggested, they better figure out a way to bury the stretch of I-5 the runs through town as well.
Now your talking some logic! And function. Start at the Kaiser and shoot straight north in between Beaverton and Hillsboro, stay up high and drop down to merge with I5 at Kalama. Bring it off that ridge to the west of the river high enough so it's a down slope clear of shipping crossing the river. A good task for a silver tongued rascal.
After you get this done, then you can rip out all that damn freeway built along the river. Recover that prime property for some useful purpose. It never should have been given to friggin freeways.

I moved away from the whole clusterfuck that is the Portland/Vancouver Metro for several reasons. The lack of planning for the future was a huge reason. I don't know how they'll fix the shit traffic without major overhauls.
Portland has one plan and one plan only, and I'm being 100% serious, make everyone ride bicycles. Cars are evil.
I do ride my bike a lot. However, during those shitty months? No thanks. Honestly, I have relied on the public transit system for many years to get to work and never saw this supposed savagery that's apparently "everywhere". There were some weirdos, sure, but nothing that would ever ever make me move to Gresham or Vancouver.
I lived in West Linn for most of the 15 years I worked in Portland. I could not do my job without the auto, but today, I don't think I could stand the commute every day.
I agree. That drive would be too much for me. The trick to living in Portland to me is finding a place with nice relaxed streets that are close to the craziness that you want to head out to. My last places were in Ladds Addition, SE 26th and Taylor, Another was a street away from Peacock lane. All super quiet and relaxed but merely blocks from awesomeness and with a 15 minute commute to work. I had no problem.
No, we need to get rid of the two Columbia bridges we have. That will solve the traffic problem much better than an additional bridge, and cheaper, too. barfo
