Where does this legend of Roy playing defense come from? The only rotation player worse than him on defense was Steve Blake.

In deference to your experience with Roy, I'll remove what I perceive as a nicer demeanor by Dame, and replace that with "better rapper." :ghoti:

Some serious rose colored glasses with Roy. Defense? Please.

How is this even in question?

    Games played
    Roy 321
    Lillard 449

    Points
    Roy 19
    Lillard 26

    Rebounds
    4
    5

    Assists
    5
    6

Roy is such an overrated figure in Blazer lore, simply because he was seemingly nice after the jailblazer era

Dame has elevated his game to another level. He willed us to that win last night on his own and has done this on a few occasions lately. Just amazing to watch. Broy did this but rarely. He never had the kind of season Dameis having. This is mvp caliber

I also don’t remember Broy being much of a defender, he had a good play on Melo once that won us a game but were there more?

I hate these type of posts as it ends up pitting two great Blazer players against each other. They are and were special in their own way and we should appreciate both for what they have done for this franchise.

I get what you are saying but sports is all about competition and competition is all about being the best. These types of comparisons will never go away.
    Just sayin.

They shouldn't be compared. They're two sides of the same coin.

I think I said around draft time, something to the effect of, Dame is the karmic second coming of Roy, being similar in so many respects (alphas, pace of play, preference for offense over defense), 4-year college guys, drafted at the same spot, acquired via trades...

    Fast forward 10 years

“Player X” is so much better than Lillard was. All lillard did was shoot a below average from the FG, take tons of bad shots and never got past the second round. Player X plays great defense and makes players better around him while Lillard couldn’t get any big men to play well during his career except Lamarcus”.

It's a worthy comparison, but I think Dame has Roy easily beat. In only one more season, Dame has played in twice as many playoff games, and has over 4,000 more career points.

Once Dame gets the Blazers to the WCF, I think he'll be overtaking Porter in my book.

Yeah... not so much. Roy could, but he mostly didn't, especially early in games. To me it appeared he coasted on D and saved his energy for offense. Dame's D isn't great, but he works and doesn't take plays off.

The only thing Roy has on Dame is size. Everything else tips in Dame's favor.
Unfortunately size matters a lot - if Dame was big enough to play SG we could be so much better than we are now.

Care to explain? How would we be so much better as he would be on the floor whether he is a shooting guard or a point guard and Lillard is the now generation type point guard which is one of the top scoring positions now.

And if roy was a little smaller we wouldn't have had the point guard issues we had in the roy days. Size isn't relevant, skill is.

My two cents, at this point, dame takes it. I'm as big a fan of roy as anyone, but dame has been around just as long and has done more for the blazers than roy did. I think because we never got to see roy play a full NBA career, we perceive his career with rose tinted glasses and extrapolate on what COULD have been. Dame, on the other hand, is here. And he's spectacular.

    Lillard is better.

Roy was like Melo, a killer in the clutch and could score from everywhere.

Lillard does all that and makes players around him better.
