That would be unbelievably good for Portland. Too bad trades can't happen until after the season is over

Kawhi’s pretty much burned his bridges with the Spurs. They’re certainly going to be entertaining offers this summer. Given that his contract has a player option after next season, trading CJ for him would be massively short sighted.

It'd have to include more than Kawhi, because combined CJ and Turner make like 42 million.

Healthy Kawhi? Yes. Current Kawhi? No.

And I really have grown to love CJ.

No way we have enough to offer for him. Celtics beat us out by offering two of Hayward, Brown and Tatum.

If its an opt in-and-trade or a sign-and-trade, I definitely like our chances, as if he wanted to come here as we wouldn't have to compete against anyone (we could keep CJ), and Meyers Turner, and Harkless will be expiring. We could possibly get Kawhi in the summer of 2019 for the expiring contracts of Meyers, Turner, Harkless, and any number of Future 1sts.

I expect 2019 to be the summer of dreams. Our bad contracts will be expiring, and there will be a lot of decent free agents that we could swing a sign-and-trade.

Olshey will never break up CJ and Dame. That's his legacy and he knows it.

No GM with half a brain would resist braking up Dame & CJ if it meant getting Kahwi

If the Spurs offered Kahwi up in a great trade, then I am sure he would. But is Olshey going to actively go out of his way to break up two players he drafted and has had great success with? No I don't think so.

to the people saying they wouldnt give up cj for kawhi........really?

thats taking over valueing our players to entirely new level im not sure this board has seen before

So, you would trade CJ away knowing that you get one season of Kawhi and then he’s going to be an unrestricted free agent looking for a max contract and, likely, brighter lights than Portland? Really?

too much risk for just a single sure year.

are we sure the spurs wouldnt take meyers and turner? i know pops has been lusting after a bench replacement for sean marks - meyers is an obvious fit here.

In a second.

Kahwi is not one that is 'looking for brighter lights'. He wants to win... period.
It's highly likely that he'd re-sign.

CJ is very good, but he's not an all-star level guard. Kahwi is MVP level.

You make that trade every day of the week without a second thought.

I’d give up CJ and our first and take a shit contract(if they have any)if that got it done. One season with the pdx fans and teammates and I would have no doubts about him signing an extension, just like PG would have. If u pair Dame/Kawhi/Nurk it’s more balanced and we would challenge for the title, especially if Zach continues his progress.

Then you have a GAPING hole at the 2 to be filled by who Pat?

Please stop with the "more balanced" talk.

I have seen no indication that Kawhi will be healthy again. I'm not trading CJ for an injured Kawhi.

Gasol. Owed $16M for 2 more seasons.

Since it can't happen until the off season, Portland would have the ability to shop for the position.
Just a couple possibilities:
  • Courtney Lee (via a Turner trade :blazerwookie:)
  • JJ Reddick (tax MLE)
  • Will Barton (tax MLE)
  • Tyreke Evans (tax MLE)
  • Gerald Henderson (tax MLE)

In a second? That's all the consideration you give to a move that would either secure your spot as Blazers GM or get you sent packing if it fails?

Leonard was injured about a year ago and still doesn't feel comfortable enough to play. Wouldn't you take a few seconds to at least glance at his medical reports?

Leonard would be eligible for a supermax contract if he stayed with the Spurs. By most rumors, he's looking to get out of San Antonio. What causes that level of dissatisfaction that you'd give up about $70 million in salary differential over what another team could offer you? Pop is a tough old bird and I suspect he has a love/hate relationship with his players from time to time, but he seems to be able to get more out of them than just about anybody else. Kawhi doesn't seem to be able to deal with Pop though. His psychological health doesn't concern you enough to pause for a minute?

If he doesn't stay with the Spurs, Leonard will undoubtedly opt out of his contract after next season in order to get a max deal. He'll be an unrestricted free agent. If the Blazers had his Bird rights, they'd be able to offer more than any other team, but that didn't work out so well with Aldridge, did it? You say Kawhi isn't the kind of guy to go looking for brighter lights. Not sure how you know that for certain, but did you consider that maybe he's a mamma's boy? The call of home can be pretty powerful and that's ultimately what Aldridge chose. For Kawhi, home is Southern California, which also happens to be about the brightest lights around. If the Lakers or Clippers cleared cap space for him, are you still so certain he'd choose rainy, small market Portland?

And what about the implications for the team's relationship with Lillard? He knows the league is a business, but he's seen a lot of his good friends traded away. Trading away another one, especially one as talented as CJ, had better work out for you. If Leonard leaves after a year and the team is left without that essential third option, how is Dame going to take that?

Yeah, you might want to give it more than a second's thought.

Gaping hole at the 2 is better than a gaping hole at the 3! Not to mention, as someone stated, you always trade a all-star caliber SG for a MVP caliber SF. It’s not even a decision.

Could you imagine if the Spurs pampering of Aldridge internally is pushing Kawhi away.

Picture kawhi showing up to the gym and Aldridge is in the corner like leonidas being fed grapes by his concubines.

It's been reported that Leonard isn't too pleased with LA getting the kid gloves when Leonard has witnessed Pop tearing into future hall of famers like Manu and Duncan. Why does LA get the good side of pop but everyone else gets chewed out.

Because they invested a ton of money in LaSofty and they need him to perform at 100% of they have no chance of winning. Pop finally figured out what a little roll of charmin Aldridge is, and he has adjusted him coaching to fit him.
