First I want to say this team isn’t a coaching issue. Terry doesn’t coach the team to turn over the ball 20 times and miss wide open threes. This is a talent issue. We’ve overachieved since Lamarcus left. Look at the roster. It’s dame, CJ, and a bunch of defensive minded role players.

Terry wants to shoot threes, and there are many reasons (backed up statistically) why it’s a good strategy. The problem is he doesn’t have the personnel to consistently run it. That’s on Neil, but not completely. Up until recently he was in asset acquisition mode. The Turner signing was a mistake, yes, but he still bring value defensively. Collins was a great pick though. He fits the system. His development will be essential. I also think Baldwin was a great pickup and gives us flexibility when it comes to Napier’s free agency.

Now onto the summer.

SCORERS. SHOOTERS.

That’s it. That’s the entire strategy.

Free Agency/Trade:

First the in house business. Renounce Napier and Connaughton. If they want to sign for the minimum later in the offseason, cool. Otherwise see ya.

Decline Laymans option. Could move the date back if they wanted to until after free agency.

Re-sign Nurk and Davis.

Now we go outside for help. We have the tax MLE along with two TPEs. I believe we will use the MLE and possibly the Vonleh TPE. I see the Crabbe TPE expiring.

MLE:

Wayne Ellington. Sniper. Career 38% shooter from outside. 39% this year on over 7 attempts. Great off the ball. 30 years old, so the tax MLE sounds about right. Perfect for the system and we honestly could use more veterans anyway.

Vonleh TPE: Olshey special. Look for rookie scale players buried on a bench. I doubt we use it, but I wouldn’t count it out like the Crabbe one.

Then sign Vince Carter for the vet minimum. Dame loves him and he’ll be great in the locker room. He can also still give you a solid 10-15m. Pretty much Pats replacement.


Draft:

Chandler Hutchison. I’m sticking to this one.

Roster:

Dame, Baldwin
CJ, Ellington, Carter
Harkless, Turner, Hutchison
Aminu, Collins, Swanigan
Nurkic, Davis, Papagiannis, Leonard

Then use the two way contracts to find guys like Baldwin that we could develop.

It’s crazy to think that someone like Wayne Ellington could be such a difference maker, but as I watch us miss open three after open three, it becomes a reality.

We are down 3-0 to a team missing their 2nd best player after home court advantage... and just got blown out in a must win game... this team is pathetic and fooled fans by beating teams with their best players out to have a mirage 3rd seed... what a fucking joke... such a flawed roster

We’d match up better with New Orleans if they had Cousins. It’s not hard to tell why this is a bad matchup. They have two great defensive guards and no center. We have Nurkic guarding Mirotic. When Cousins was healthy Nurkic neutralized him.


Or jump off the bridge. Whatever suits you.

Nope. He just has a stagnant offense that has no basket cuts that leads to players trying miracle plays to get something, anything going... He doesn't teach our players how to pass or properly move the ball. Have you seen our entry passes? They suck because we don't have a single play that frees Nurkic up for an entry pass, and we're often at too vertical of an angle to make a good pass, due to our system. THATS STOTTS FAULT.

It's a good strategy when they're going in, and bad when they aren't. A good coach has a counter, and if teams take away 3s, they teach they're teams how to exploit that. All we shoot is jumpsuits. We hardly get to the paint. We don't move the ball to create driving seams that can open up paintings and easier 3s. You eant to continue with a shot selection where at least 70% of the shots are jumpshots? No. Get easy shots. A layups the best shot. We don't get any. THATS STOTTS FAULT.

So you solve this by replacing Shabazz with Baldwin and Pat with Ellington?! How does that fix our stagnant offense? How are we going to succeed when teams trap Dame, which Stotts has shown he can't adjust to? So were still gonna be last an assists and near the bottom in fast break points, but somehow we'll succeed with that style of ball because We'll add WADE BALDWIN and WAYNE ELLINGTON to our fricken lineup?

C'mon Scalma. You're better than that.

I don't see how we could add him for the TPE since we can't require him for a year since we just traded him and therefore can't retrade for him until next year's deadline, and he's also a free agent but... And I’d also add most of the points you’re trying to blame Terry with actually just shows lack of talent. You want post ups but we don’t have anyone we can consistently go to. We have TWO scorers on the entire roster. Everyone else is defensive minded.

I read Vonleh TPE and thought you meant add Vonleh with the TPE.

He was very efficient to end the season. We could also utilize interior screening to free Nurkic inside for buckets that aren't post ups, but we never use screens to get interior shots, and we don't cut to the rim unless it's a rare backcut.

Nurkic’ efficiency went up when his usage went down. We barely posted him up in the second half of the season. That part of his game is still a work in progress.

The team needs changes... He's not saying what the reality will be, just that we need other changes. Meanwhile, your claiming that he'll be wrong because the reality is that we won't have changes.

But he's good when he's open and rumbling to the hoop, but we only utilize that in pick n rolls which are hard to run when teams trap.

There's ways other than through the pick n roll that could free up Nurk going towards the rim.

I brought up that in July my post will be closer to reality than his wishlist.
