OT ABC Cancels Roseanne

I imagine you play it well. My musical talent is nil, but I do love to hear it played well.

 

That show already lost a lot of viewership compared to it's initial hot start, there was already an avalanche of people jumping ship which would have meant deteriorating quality and with it, viewership - and it would have been silly to imagine that the same kind of advertisers backlash would not have happen as it did to Laura Ingraham.

As "noble" as they seem - I am willing to bet that they looked at it and said something like - this thing is a pain to manage as is, but at least we are making money on it, but with this new stuff - we are a lot less likely to make money on it going forward - and as such, it is not worth the hassle.

That makes tons of sense to me.

 

Interestingly enough, TV actually did used to promote what was considered “proper decorum” at the time. No cuss words, twin beds for married couples, no interracial romance, rare depictions of divorce, “bachelor” uncles and “spinster” aunts to deflect any question or concerns about homosexuality, no drug use and little if any graphic violence. All good right? Unless you consider the promotion of excessive drinking, smoking and gender inequality. But then, those were “proper” social norms back then eh......?

 

I'm not sure what my exact hopes were but she found the low bar and went even further. I expected some stupid stuff from her this is beyond wow.

I don't think either or anyone will learn a lesson. I do think one less platform for a idiot, asshole bigot is a good thing though.

She's a funny person and I'd enjoy her show if she weren't such a racist.

Yes. In our great country you have the right to be an asshole, I have the right to think your an asshole, but neither of us has the right to a be on a TV show.

By the way, I was actually a viewer of the show and was excited for it. It was a terrible let down though and we were already questing some of its content and attempt at some humor. It was just a matter of time before it slipped significantly in ratings, because I doubt we were going to watch much longer. For instance (I mentioned this already) but there was an episode where Roseanne was scared of the new Muslim neighbors but needed to use their wifi for an emergency at 2am, so she went over to their house with a baseball bat to ask them for the password. WTF is up with that?

 

I doubt it. There is no chance in hell any other major network will pick it up and I suspect they will not be willing to take the huge pay-cut to run it on public access where-ever racist jokes are popular.

 

insult via twitter is the new way to govern....Pocahantas….Crooked fill in the blank....Entertainment tonight fired their poster boy for chuckling at Trump's pussy grabbing jokes....and we wonder why this behavior is feeling empowered? House of Cards was the most popular show on the planet and they canned it over Spacey....no more Cosby show reruns syndicated...all cash cows in entertainment

ABC has the right to broadcast and pay for any content that they want to do. No one is stopping her for continuing her show, problem is, those who would normally pay for the production don't want to anymore. That's not censorship or denying someone of free speech. Roseanne has the money she can do what Oprah did and start her own network.

Good luck finding enough customers and sponsors to fund such a network. Who wants to attach their name and reputation to a racist?

I suppose Cosby could start a network from prison but who would sponsor that? The Prison Guards of America union?

And who would sponsor Roseanne? Skin Heads of America? Neo Nazis of America? White Supremacists of America?
