The 5 Best NBA Careers Ruined by Injuries

Not a surprise, but the Blazers have 2 out of the top 5. They list Roy at number 4 and Oden at number 5.

And of course, the one that 'missed the cut' was also a Blazer -
To keep things contemporary, we limited the candidate pool to players from the last 20 years or so. (Apologies to Bill Walton, who missed that cutoff.)

I don't agree that Odens career was ruined by injuries. To me, NBA career implies he played some NBA games and the career was shortened. I.E., Bernard King. Or Bill Walton. Those kinds of injuries i mean, not THOSE players as yes I saw that they limited it to 20 years. You can't have something ruined that you didn't actually have.
 
We ask these questions so much about ex-players it defines us as a franchise. I swear we are a bunch of pushovers. Injuries happen in a high paced sport. It's just the way it is Why don't we ask ourselves why we've crapped out of the firsr round a record 23 f-ing times and are perfectly fine about it. Why don't we ask why there are no decent 3 and D players on this team. Why don't we ask ourselves why no decent veteran player will sign here? Those are things worth talking about.

Not how how much bad luck we've had.

Well at this point in the off-season we’ve talked plenty about both. However no one seems to know PA well enough to get anything done.

Well I've been gone since the end of the playoffs. So I may have missed some of that. Sorry.
 
Oden in a list of "best" NBA careers ruined by injury? Rose?

Hill had a hell of a career regardless. I wouldn't say his career was ruined.
 
Bill Walton should be at the top of the best Blazer players to have their career ruined by injuries. Prior to his foot injuries, he was one of the best players to ever play the center position in the NBA. He continued on afterwards, but was never the same player.
 
Yes, the Blazers have had more than their share of injuries. It sucks. And yes, losing in the first round also sucks. But I'm certainly glad we're not a perennial cellar dweller like Sacramento, or Minnesota. We haven't let injuries be an excuse. We seem to pick ourselves up rather quickly and dust ourselves off. Hell, after losing 5 of our top 6 scorers when LaMarcus left, Dame steps in and brings us right back to the playoffs.

The past is the past. It's our time to enjoy some 'healthy' years. I'm looking forward to Dame pushing this team to the next level over the next couple of years.

More Scottie Pippen. I watched both, and while Grant Hill was awesome, he was never LeBron-esque even at his best. Peak T-Mac was better.

There was a run of great wings who never got to be all they could be: Penny, Hill, T-Mac.

But when he did play, you could see the monster that Oden could be. I watched him destroy a Joakim Noah and the Bulls like he was toying with them. I do believe that he had the kind of talent to get us far.

My friend, remember that Orlando team with Tracy McGrady?

Imagine it with a young, healthy Grant Hill that never missed any time due to injury.

He'd be way higher on the all time lists sans injury.

You completely misunderstand my post. No one is saying anyone is better or worse. Grant Hill and McGrady could've coexisted since their skillset is different.

Scottie Pippen and Grant Hill were LeBron before LeBron was LeBron bro.

I'm talking skillset alone...

Now, the only difference in their games really is size and strength.

All were pretty equally athletic. They all played the same position, Point Forward.

LeBron is just the best one ever.
 
A healthy Oden would have become the best Center of the decade.
 
Remember how fucking insane the hype for oden was especially here? Shaq and bill russel talking him up. Wild times. Then b Roy of course was just so talented. So fundamental. He was amazing.

I keep thinking about that Jon Barry interview, where he keeps saying that "Portland needs to trade out of the pick to BOS at #5...they don't need Oden" as if he had Danny Ainge's forearm up his butt making his mouth move.
 
Well with 30 teams in the NBA and 3 of the 6 players mentioned for careers ruined by injuries were Blazers, that proves Portland's cursed!

I remember when the Blazers drafted him and Red Auerbach ( who was supplying commentary for the draft) almost choked on his cigar as the Celtics were looking to add him in the second round, after seething for a moment, Red went on to say that he was one of the 3 best centers/players that he had ever seen play emphasizing ever. He also speculated that the USSR would never allow him to play in the US (which he was correct, however it was rumored that Boston had a back channel going that could have expedited Sabas being allowed to play.)
