It appears Parsons is done as a Grizzly and they are looking for a trade partner. With his 25 mil owed next year it appears he will become a stretch candidate and then put on waivers rather than find a trade partner. If waived anyone interested?

Worse signing than ET.... Allen Crabbe.... who else?

I doubt theyd stretch him.

I’d only take him if he was a free agent. And I’d only take him for the minimum.

That was the point of my post as I don't see any team taking his contract so it would be a waiver and then signed to a min contract. Low cost and no risk. The guy is still a good shooter.

You think they can trade that contract?
No. But I think theyd rather take the extra $15M hit next off-season instead of a $10M hit for the next four off-seasons.

the pathetic thing about that is that if Parsons hadn't said no to Olshey, that albatross deal would be Portland's problem
I'm not so sure about that. There were reports that Portland pulled their offer after looking over the medicals.

He is owed 25.1 mil next year. Nobody knows what his buyout would be as of now.

If that is the case, then they made that offer before seeing medicals? I'm not sure which is worse?

I'd probably still do Leonard, Turner, and Swanigan for Parsons and some future draft compensation.

Not because I want Parsons or think he'd be useful but it does save us some money and frees up two roster spots.

Was there actually a report about that because the only place I saw that was on this board.
I don't know, I wasn't posting on here then so it had to come from somewhere.

The guy cannot stay healthy so no reason to trade for him. I don't see Olshey interested in him even he gets bought out.

why would Memphis do that? It would actually cost them more money even if they just let him expire after next year. This year, you are adding about 5 mil and next year a little more plus any luxury tax penalties in each year they are in tax territory.. Even taking Swanigan out still leaves Memphis paying more money.

No shit. People are saying no way we should trade for Parsons. I'm saying I would still consider something like this from Portland's point of view.

Nearly $25M. Why should he give up money? Hes not gonna make anything more than the minimum whatever he'd go next. Even if he spotted them $10M, they'd rather take the $20M next offseason than a $8M over 4 offseasons.

Horrible deal for both teams. Explain why Memphis does it.

Like I said NOBODY knows what his buyout might be. Only thing being reported is that Memphis will be negotiating with Parson's agent. It's not 20mil, it's 25.1 mil next season.

yeah, sorry, but I'm going to call bullshit on that one...no offense intended by the way

Evan Turner has said Olshey told him Portland would pivot to an offer for him if Parsons didn't sign. We heard the news Parsons signed with memphis, then about 3-4 hours later we heard of the agreement with Turner. If Portland actually pulled their offer that order would have been reversed IMO

and frankly, I've never heard that rumor and since I think Olshey is 110% snake oil, I'd be inclined to think if that rumor was really out there it was Olshey leaking it to put salve on his own chapped ass for being spurned, once again

I just said, no shit that Memphis wouldn't do it. Now you are asking me why Memphis would do it? LOL

If I had to come up with reasons...

1) They could feel that Turner and Leonard could help them more than a player who isn't even going to be with the team.

2) They could feel like next year two smaller contracts would be easier to trade next off season than a washed up player on a bigger contract.

3) They could think Swanigan is the next Z-Bo and train him in Z-Bo's old role next to Gasol.

Believe him or not...Olshey did say they weren't pursuing Parsons but did due diligence meeting with his agent and that Turner was his target all along....whatever his reasons for saying that, he did say it. Olshey said that we needed to address defensive weakness in the roster and add ball handling I believe as well...he got defenders and forgot bench scoring that season
