As of tomorrow there are 3 weeks until the trade deadline. With rumors that the Blazers will be "aggressive" (yeah right), I thought we should start a new thread for all things related to the trade deadline. Please post any rumors you hear/see as to who is available, what their expected price will be, and who our Blazers are reportedly interested in.

I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised but am bracing myself for the usual disappointment.

I think that the ONLY moves made are to get under the luxury tax.

The team will be sold this Summer.

New ownership will shake things up. I don’t see Neil having any other directive than to “get under the cap.”
Agreed. I could see something along the lines of Moe to Kings for Skal.

Just happy to be alive!

While sources did not provide specifics on which teams the Cavs have spoken with, it is believed they are hearing from teams in actual contention.

Thompson is a native of Canada and the Eastern Conference-leading Toronto Raptors have been interested since the Cavs selected Thompson with the fourth overall draft pick in 2011.

The Houston Rockets also just lost center Clint Capela for at least a month with an injured thumb, and have already spoken with the Cavs a few times about exiled shooting guard J.R. Smith. (Though it is believed most of those conversations took place before Smith was told to go home.)

The Oklahoma City Thunder and Portland Trail Blazers are others who may be interested.

But that’s all speculation at this point.

Sam Amico is notorious for just throwing shit out there, but it's something

I don't dislike the idea of Thompson but I don't think it actually helps that much. This team runs out of gas when three players who can't shoot are on the floor at the same time so any combination of Aminu/harkless/Thompson/Nurkic/ET is just going to keep getting us wrecked. They would have to take back ET/Harkless/Meyers for us to grab Thompson and i'm not sure they want any of those guys, because I can't see just taking on that much money without some of our horrible money going out as well simply because the team is up for sale.

I think it's just nonsense if true. We let Ed go for 4 mil and want to bring in a guy making 4x as much to play pretty much the same role?

I'd be down with a ET/Thompson swap. They have nearly identical contracts too.

Id be fine with that but I have to assume that Cleveland would want way more then just ET.

I thought the whole reason for letting Ed go was to Zach more playing time but what it seems to have done instead is just give Stotts another excuse to have Aminu on the court as much as possible.

Which is why Aminu MUST be traded. Gotta kick those crutches out from under Stotts.

I would love Aminu on this team at 20m a game but since that wont happen he has to go. He shoots well in the playoffs and on some games but that is almost entirely because the other team WANTS him to shoot and leaves him completely unguarded and most times he still wont shoot.

What are you basing that opinion on? Since Stotts has been coach and Aminu has been here his minutes have been as follow:

2015/16 28.5 mpg
2016/17 29.1mpg
2017/18 30mpg
2018/19 30.1mpg

hard to have any more consistent minutes than that in 4 years and no basis to say Stotts is trying to play him more minutes.

Yup. He's a fine bench player, but Terry will NEVER play him as a bench player.

For those thinking that Olshey's only objective is to get under the tax line...

What I'm really hoping for is the type of trade(s) that both improve our team this year AND help our cap situation. Deals like Turner, Swanigan, and a 1st for Prince and Lin get us both closer to the tax line and improve our team this year and possibly in the future with Prince. That would knock about $3.4 million off the $7.9 needed to get under the tax. Then you make another similar trade for the last bit.

Agreed. I could see something along the lines of Moe to Kings for Skal.
As much as I like the good Harkless if we could make this trade without giving up a pick I think it has to be considered. Combine it with another trade for a wing like the Prince one above and I think we are both better and below the tax. That's a win-win in my opinion.

I'd be down with a ET/Thompson swap. They have nearly identical contracts too.
I've been advocating for this trade since ET became trade eligible two years ago. Thompson can't shoot but he's one of the few bigs in this league that can hold his own against quicker guards when switched on pick and rolls.

I don't think Dame will take another cost saving move lying down again.

I hope you are correct - but I'm afraid Olshey has reached the point he doesn't care if he alienates Dame or anybody else. He knows he won't be fired until the team is sold and that he almost certainly will be fired when they are. A man living his life without consequences is a scarey thing.

This rumor doesn't involve the Blazers, nor does it come from a reputable source (Bleacher Report), but it's an interesting trade nonetheless...

Nets get JR Smith and Julius Randle

Cavs get Allen Crabbe, Solomon Hill, Frank Jackson, Shabazz Napier, Two 2019 1st round picks (I'm assuming one from each), and Two 2020 2nd round picks

Pelicans get Kevin Love and Rodney Hood (if he accepted the trade)

This would be considered a last ditch effort to try and keep AD.

Sounds like a desperate plan to make AD demand a trade. How does clogging their capspace with a guy who is 30 going on 60 make the team a more desirable place for AD to stay?

Because there are a lot of stupid GMs out there (Demps included of the Pelicans). I would rather have Randle at this point than Love but they are worried he'll leave for nothing after this season. This definitely fits their MO of always trading away 1st round picks.

As one of the few Olshey fans here, I am quite sure he'll "be aggressive." However, my educated guess is that that means
he'll make a lot of phone calls.... which means nothing. He's always making a lot of phone calls. So, not news.

He's been gunshy since the Afflalo trade. Most all of his trades have been "value" trades. I'd like to see him get back
on the horse and make nonconservative trade.

tl;dr: Neil needs a balls check. I don't think he'll succeed. No significant traded will be made this deadline by the Blazers.

I'd rather have Mirotic than Love...

My dream trade that won't happen:

CJ + Turner + Harkless +1st for Porter + Beal

works in the trade machine.

Improves their locker room??
They get out of contracts a year earlier??
Me making excuses because I want Washington to do it??

So that'd be a man with nothing to lose and nothing to gain who's looking ahead to being unemployed and has been stagnant his whole tenure here?

Yikes.
