we need some cheap contracts as NBA announced earlier today latest salary cap estimate suggested a of DECLINE 3 mil next yr, with CJ's and Dame's huge deals kicking in soon it is going to be very impt to have some cheaper deals for decent players and some rookie contracts mixed in there
Woj is reporting that the cap will still go up from this year but the decline will be from next year's estimate.
sounds like the cap will be around 113M. That would put the tax line around 137M and the apron at 143M
Does this effect the amount Dame gets on the max? I know it's a % of the cap... just don't remember which year it's based on.
I appreciate the fact he doesn't hate it here, but I can't envision him staying. There will be a bigger market that will come calling, or a real chance at a ring (rather than an outside chance of one). We're a backwater. Unless we were predicted to be one of the top 2-3 teams to compete for a title next year, he's headed for greener pastures.
I believe it's still based on the year it was signed and no future years effect it. That's something I wish the NBA would change. Each team's max player (or super max if applicable) should be making the same amount. Last year for example you had guys like Kawhi and Klay making around $20 million on a max deal while other max players that signed in the summer of 2018 making closer to $30 million. If you sign a max contract it should be proportionate to the cap.
that's only a 1M drop. "The loss of the league's China-driven revenue has caused many teams to prepare for the possibility that the original 2020-21 cap projection of $116 million could drop as far as $113 million, front-office executives have told ESPN." https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id...revised-2020-21-salary-luxury-tax-projections
I don't know what to tell you, I just reported what Woj did. They won't know for sure until the end of June. It's also possible that this Kobe death could bring more attention and revenue to the NBA.
