I have at least those top two...maybe the Zebra one in a collection of his stories. I'll have to look and see. That's unfortunate.

Most of his stories have positive morals and speak out to the political and sociological aspects of our society.

I vaguely remember reading the first three as a kid. Don't think I've heard of the bottom three. I wonder what the hurtful language was.

I have a first addition Scrambled Eggs Super. Going to have to go take a look at it.

Roald Dahl is even worse. Sucks to grow up and learn these things about authors who were so important.

In And To Think I Saw It On Mulberry Street there is a Asian man eating with sticks, a Raja, and the boy is a liar

In If I Ran the Zoo, he talks about foreign helpers who have slanted eyes

It appears to be illustrations that are hurtful and racist

In And To Think I Saw It On Mulberry Street there is an illustration of a Chinese man with a cone shaped hat, eating with chopsticks.

In If I Ran The Zoo there are illustrations of two barefooted African men with grass skirts and their hair tied above their heads.

I haven't seen the picture so perhaps I'm way off, but what's racist about that?

Thats what is being said. It's stereotypical for sure and thus hurtful. Not sure it is really racist.

I can see why for the second one

The fuck is so hurtful about that? Chinese men in those days wear that cone shaped hat and use chopsticks to eat. Big fucking whoop.
It’s appropriating races into one human conglomerate. Portraying all cultures as the gentrified image created by western civilization.

It’s true there have been many offensive racial depictions of cultures in western media and entertainment - it’s also true that at some point you will start drawing negative meaning to things when otherwise there may not be.

I was too old when his second book came out. I never read any more of his horrible anti-animal tripe. I didn't need to. I already hated elephants and Whos named Horton.

I should buy the boxed set....it'll be worth a fortune after they burn all the copies they can find

In the McCarthy Era, many leftist writers tried to write funny stuff, not daring to write what they wanted. This included Dr. Seuss. Good thing that erah is ovah and I don't have to act funny.

Look, you've got to use your hunting rifle and resist when they come to your house to burn those books and other Left leaning garbage. Second Amendment, baby.

I read The Cat in the Hat when it had just been published, which turned me into a right-wing racist pig.
All these years I always wondered what your problem was, now I know - cat in the hat.

Green font... Long time!
